putting myself in your nans place......I will leave my rings to my daughter, they wont fit I know, but I would hope she would have them resized and wear them. but, as daughter has a daughter, I wouldnt be sorry if she just kept them for her! or for her son to offer them to his 'intended'! as long as they were kept close and appreciated - I would be happy. The only thing which would offend me is if they were sold - I would want my rings handed down to at least the generation which I know and love.0

My Mum inherited her Mum's engagement ring, though she never wore it as she always felt it was a bit 'old fashioned' in styling. Sad, isn't it! So it sat in a box in her drawer for 20 years, until a few months ago. My Dad said to her, why don't you take it to that proper, old fashioned jeweller in town and see if they could remake the diamonds into, say, earrings???? Get a quote and if it's not too dreadful, it can be your Christmas present from me. So she did, and was amazed to be told the two diamonds were of very good quality and worth approx £500, or more. The jeweller said he'd buy the platinum band for scrap and he was pretty sure he could simply cut the stones complete with their settings off the band and solder ear wires onto the back. The quote was about £100 for the work and she went ahead and had the earrings made. She was so pleased with them and wears them constantly. I'm so sure her Mum would be delighted that after all this time, most of her ring is finally being worn and enjoyed!!!
So, please do have the ring altered and enjoy wearing it. Don't feel guilty!0
