cleaning the oven

The very best product I have ever used is oven pride. No smell and no mess and fantastic result. I don`t go with bicarb or stardrops or the white stuff in a tub etc. They`re ok if the oven just needs a wipe but my problem occurred after cooking goose breast and (horror of horrors!!) forgetting to clean the splattered grease off. Then I heated the oven to its absolute max to bake my sourdough bread. Result was a dreadful caked on choking carbon mess
Then along came oven pride for the first time in my life and it was love at first sight :kisses:0 -
What is oven pride and where can I get some?0

can I hijack this thread (sorry) to ask how to clean the glass doors of my oven ? There seems to be 2 panels of glass and a gap at the top so loads of dust has fallen in between over theyears and it looks really grubby. How do I take it apart ? There are no oobvious screws, the places where I would expect screws seem to have rivety type things
If it's riveted in, it's probably safer not to mess. You'll probably be able to get the glass out, it's getting it back in again that's going to be the problem.
As for cleaning it in situ, it's not OS but Fairy Powerspray does a good job. Just don't leave it on for ages - 5 mins max. Otherwise it dries out and stops working. Or, borrow or buy a steam cleaner. The steam will get places you'd never get a cloth.
I think oven designers must never clean their own ovens. They make it so awkward to get to certain bits of it.0 -
Thansk Solomon_broad, I never thought of a steam cleaner, muct get one some day, keepthinking of things I could use one for !Jan GC: £202.65/£450 (as of 4-1-12)

Steam cleaners are excellent. Got a morphy richards on for £35 from Argos. Holds 3 litres of water - very similar to much more expensive ones. The little penguin things are useless.
I only use mine once every few months general jobs around the house. BUT was not much use on my oven, did not remove the carbon0 -

Not very Os at £8 a bottle, but, believe me, this really works wonders, and no foul smell! Its the best thing in the world and the oven looks like new afterwards!! ( how sad am I getting over excited at oven cleaner!) :rotfl:Member of bad mothers club, not sure of the number!0 -
I was going to buy an expensive oven cleaning pack by Mr. Muscle (can I say that on here?) but my sister (an avid Stardrops user) gave me this hint instead.
Put a cup of amonia in a black bin liner with your shelves and trays, seal the bag and leave overnight. The fumes will literally melt the gunge from the metal. WARNING!! Take care when opening the bag as the fumes are overpowering and dangerous - best to do it outside.
For the rest of the oven just place a cup of amonia in the oven and leave overnight for the fumes to do their work - a bit like the elves and the shoemaker in the childrens story!!0 -
Mind got really bad.
Luckily the glass bit came off with screws and I washed that in the sink.
As for the rest: rubber gloves, Astonish oven cleaner (from Wilko's of course) and a metal scourer.
I feel a bit disgusted that I had been eating food cooked in the filthy thing, but I feel MUCH better now!
You can get sugar soap from Wilko's too on the decorating department. But wear gloves and a mask! :eek:Debt, debt, debt:

There is an Oven Cleaning product in an orange box at my local Tesco (its name escapes me). it is about 5 pounds.
You squirt all the stuff in and leave over night, then the next day it just wipes away, it is brilliant!!Our dream has come true...0 -
wipe out your oven while it is warm with white (distilled) vinegar. No effort at all on the bottom. Some scrubbing needed on the glass, but a couple of attempts with the scrubby side of a washing up sponge and its the best i've seen it in a long time.
Got this fom thrifty ways book, and thought no way, but it really works0
