for shelves (and presumably doors as well) someone on here once suggested soaking overnight in a bath with cheap biological washing powder. Anyone tried this? Does it work?0

Hiya, I cleaned my oven yesterday and I know its prob not v. env. friendly, but I bought a can of Mr. Muscle oven cleaner from the poundshop and it bought mine up a treat. For the shelves, I got them in the kitchen sink and use one of those metal scrubbing pads and some star drops and they now look brand new!!!Marriages are made in heaven, but then again so is thunder and lightning!!!.....getting divorced lol :j

hi
when i moved into my house the built in oven looked like it had probably never been cleaned  i meant to replace it asap but have never been in a position to buy one as good (it is actually a really good one)
i have only every really half heartedly given it a clean round as i always told myself it would soon be going.
finances being as they are i have decided i owe it to myself to give it a real make or break good go before i make the move to chuck it!
the glass inside of the door is totally black and opaque and this is the bit that offends me the most.
what can i use to get it clean or is it past hope
not very os but as a one off i am willing to try anything (within reason) even if it is evil chemicals
thanks guys, i know you will have some good ideas

I saw this on 'How Clean is Your House' last week.
Get some bicarb and mix it to a thickish paste with some washing up liquid.
Apply with a cloth and rub on to the glass inside the door gently and it should lift quite easily.
It appeared to work a treat and I intend to try it this weekend after stocking up on bicarb today.0 -
I do similar but with a paste of bicarb and vinegar. Cuts into the grease on the glass door and works well
Needs rinsing fairly well due to powder residue from the bicarb, but it's okworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Hi Vixtress.
We had a similar problem when we moved in 7 weeks ago. My OH wanted to replace the oven....it was that bad. We scrubbed for days, and still couldn't remove the grime.
Then my good ol' Mum recommended a product called Oven Pride.....and the oven now looks brand new [and I'm not kidding...it was brilliant]. I found a detailed review at http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/household-products/oven-pride-kitchen-cleaner/1045775/. I bought mine at Asda for £3.99.
Good luck with the oven..and the new house.

I too second oven pride- it did wonders for ours when we moved in...
Have you tried one of those glass scraping things? I've not got one myself but I've seen Kim and Aggie use one before0 -

My oven was the same when I moved into my rented flat, and I'll third the oven pride, it's great stuff. One thing I DON'T recommend though is the Mr Muscle 'spray on' stuff - it absolutely stinks (and makes the oven smell for days) and after I'd sprayed it on and left it for the suggested time I came back to what looked like a huge puddle of black treacle all over the kitchen floor. It's nasty stuff.0

Read the instructions on the oven pride closely, I believe you should leave as much of the removable bits of the oven outside in the bag with the oven pride stuff in and keep your windows open. It's serious stuff but does the trickDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0
