Likewise with Talk Talk, I use Talk Talk for the free evening and weekend calls, and calls to other Talk Talk customers at all times, and then use 18866 for the daytime calls, when not using 1899 VoIP service. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

Connection charges are like a stealth tax. They mount up, especially when you reach an answer machine or otherwise make a very brief call. I will return to using Tiscali (previously AXS) at 2p per minute but no connection charge. I'm an NTL customer, rather than BT based.
you are welcome to Tiscali. I'm an ntl customer and believe me when I tell you Tiscali are rubbish. I used their previous company WorldOnline and Locatel and they were equally rubbish. You have been warned!0 -

I too am an NTL customer and have used Tiscali, WorldOnline and Localtel - since the late 90s, in my case, with no problems whatsoever as far as telephone connection, call quality and billing arrangements are concerned.
I also use Tiscali for most of my e-mails and, prior to NTL broadband, as my dial-up ISP.

Checked my bill charged 2p for today's calls.
But not complaining as my £45 DD to BT will have to change, pretty sharpish I hope.
Paid £1.67 for the first months calls on 18866.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Question for all the people moaning about this increase -
If 18866 had started the service with a 2p standard connection charge and no call costs would you have still signed up?
Don't bother replying just stop moaning and get on with still saving a hell of a lot of money on telephone charges.:beer:0 -

Top post! I'm saving a bucketful of money using 18866. My BT bill for calls would come to £100 a qtr or more. My last bill from 18866 was for less than £6 for the month. Wow, I love 18866. I have worked out that I'm saving over £300 per year on BT prices. As I sit by the pool in Majorca in 8 weeks time, I shall raise a glass to 18866 and say, thanks for the free holiday.0 -
18866 is a godsend in my household. Once my friend and I get on the phone we can chat for hours and I always felt really guilty at the cost of the call when we were "overcharged" by BT. I used to only phone her at weekends and evenings too. Now that I am on 18866, we are on the phone for hours during the day - and all for the extortionate fee of ............... 2p:D .0

I didn't get the email but I would also agree that informing people that the connection charge is doubling under the slogan of "summer sale" is a bit silly.
Having said that, we have used 18866 for over a year and even with 2p connection charge, they are still far and away the cheapest provider for our calls and I don't begrudge the increase at all.
I do feel they could have phrased it a bit better.
Thanks

18866 is still cheap compared to BT, but the price movement is in the wrong direction. Did 18866 make money at 1p per call?0

I'm a little confused by this pricing. I have just looked at my bill on 18866, a call for approx 13.57 mins was about .089P. When I ring a number, the voice says the call will be charged at .5P a minute. So as you see, my bill isnt being charged at the .2P a minute that everyone else seems to being charged,(not that I'm complaining). Could it be that it has something to do with when you register. ie if it was before the price hike date??. Be interested to know if any one else has noticed this. Bye the way, I'm connected thru the brilliant "orchid dialler", if you havent got one, then get one, you wont be dissapointed.0
