Do you not have the new keep supplement (little green slip)?? Without that you will have to wait for a new V5, which if the old one isn't present your going to have to apply for one, which could take a fair while.
If you bought a car without seeing the V5 its a bit risky and pretty silly if you don't have the time to wait for a V5 to comeEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
What did the seller say about the missing logbook?
Did you HPI check the car?0 -
Park the car off the road on private land, Where you have permission and apply to the
DVLA for the logbook paying the fee required.
Wait a few weeks for the log book to arrive, Then you can tax the car.
Cannot tax a car thats not in your name anymore.
I was listening to the guy at the DVLA office and he told more than a couple of people
dont buy a car without a logbook.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
hpi came back all clear, car has full hpi recipt.... seller lost logbook
i know the seller he a family friend.. but just missplaced it...

also family friend have moved away, hence the sale i bought it off his son ( his father confirmed the sale) so cant see him to sort tax out for me, unless i travel about 150 mile to his home, but i cant0

yes there is get friend to find the v5c and give you the green slip, tell him he maybe in for a fine also for failure to notify change of keeper.
either that you will have to apply for a new v5c supplemant, the dvla will writ to your friend for permision to change over keeper details as it will be registered in his name, so they may write to him, then they will isue you with the new v5c can take upto 4-6 weeks.
car shouldnt be kept on the road, but if your insured (and check your insurance docs to see if no VED (vehicle excise duty= tax) means insurance invalid) youll just recieve an £60 or is it £80 for no VED these days, your car probably wont show up on MID datbase as insured either so ecpect to get pulled if a ANPR equiped traffic cop comes anywhere near you.
EDIT FOR ABOVE POST:
This could get rather mesy for you, if father hasnt notified change of address on the v5 for your car, come time the DVLA write to his old address for change of keeper permision hows he going to reply to it, no reply means a long delay for you.
best chances heres is to have your friend find the v5 fill in his part to send off and give you the greenslip part to tax it, if he cant find it mock up his own change of keeper letter to the DVLA and send off recorded delivery so it doesnt get lost that way he notify's you get a V5 within 14 days usually.0 -
If you can, ask the seller to apply for a new V5C (it will be processed and sent to them in a matter of days) and then give you the green 'New Keeper Supplement ' part, you can use that to tax the car at a Post Office.
If you apply for it yourself, it can be weeks before you get it.0 -

Nope, you will have to apply for a log book, which IIRC the DVLA will contact the previous registered keeper by post to confirm the status, they will then have to reply by post. Once its been confirmed the DVLA will send out the new V5.
Its a right royal pain in the !!!! without the V5, I have done it once and never again. It took around 4 weeks to get the new V5 the one and only time I had to do it!!
You either have to wait or tell your seller friend to pull his finger out and find the V5 or for them to apply for a new one, which would be much quicker but still probably looking at a week.
As mentioned already you will need to get the car off the road as it has no tax.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
i can not get hold of him, so its no way at all apart fromsend £25 to dvla for new log book an wait approx 6 weeks0
