ok on my last car i had a disabled tax disc as i use it as my nans illness, can i in anyway transfer this

No idea how disabled tax works, but if it requires you to prove who the registered keeper is then you know the answer to your question.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

You cant tax a car without the log book. You cannot transfer a tax disc from one car to another.

You can send it back for a refund but if its free then thats out. If its your nans tax disc then you cant legally use it anyway.

No tax = clamped or towed. Costs to get the car back and any backdated tax. Then fine for having no tax.
If the car is not in your name then collecting it maybe an issue.

£15 a day whilst you wait weeks for the logbook?

if dvla van passes it on the road youll sorry the previous keeper will be sent a fine, then they will clamp it, failure to tax and pay backdated tax will result in it being towed.

it wouldnt matter if you stuck tax in it from a totally different car (well that would actually fetch another fine) ANPR workes off the registration number so even if it displays a foney disc it will still flag up untaxed.

what would happen if the police pull you, well at night probably siezed if they cant get hold of your insurer and not showing on MID as you only now just insured it it can take upto 5 working days to be on the MID as insured, youll get a ticket no points for no tax, and a ticket for displaying a VED disc not beloning to that vehicle.

what will happen then? well you car will be towed £150. then £15-25 perday storage, could you collect the next day no you have no V5 so youll probably have a nice large bill by the time the v5 hits your door mat.

like other has said, no v5 keep off the road because you will proably make a small glitch in taxing it a huge expensive problem you drive it on the road.
  • I don't wish to be alarmist but, even though they are a family friend, there is a possibilty that they have not given you the V5 because there is a logbook loan on the car? Unfortunately it seems that these are not always declared for the HPI check.

Personally I would contact DVLA asap and get their advice on how to proceed in getting a new V5.

Never thought of that and i do remember them mentioning it on watchdog, A lot of companies do not put anything on the HPI register to say any payments are outstanding on the car.

One good thing, When its towed you dont need to worry about paying to get it back because you cant. The logbook loan people will have to foot the bill.
You will never see the car again though.
