Peugeot 206cc or 207cc or 307cc
Astra Twin Top
VW Eos

I can go up to 21K new and want a car late 2005/2006 if used.

Which would you recommend?

I had trouble getting a test drive with the VW, each time they sold the car before we got there:mad:

    Isn' it the Mazda RX-5?...;)

What Car car of the year says its the VW Eos.

Seriously though I am surprised the MX-5 is not on your list.

According to Whacar the peugots are not great and get 2-3 stars. The Astra gets 4 stars as does the Eos.
  • Out of that choice I'd def' say Eos - in all respects (car, residuals, drive etc).

With a top budget of 21k you can get into a 2.0 FSI, a 2.0 TDi, or a Sport 2.0 FSi.

Stock is a nightmare but we've been able to get March and April delivery dates so far so it's not too bad if ordering...but test drives are tricky! Ring around a few dealers within 50 miles or so and see if you can book one.

  • If it were me I would avoid the pug's. 206 not good for reliability. A friend of mine who is French had one and has vowed never to buy PSA group again. She had so many problems that she went into PSA in Paris and managed to get acontribution towards her costs as many of the problems she had were classed as non warranty (cat, exhaust failure, battery etc).

If it was my money I would opt for the Eos - feels more special and will likely have better residuals

Go for the VW, Peugeots are notoriously unreliable and loose their value considerably quicker than VWs. the EoS looks nicer and probably drives better too. Their is no competition if you can afford to buy one. You should get at least a £1000 off an EOS, have a look at https://www.uknewcars.com.

Guess you need 4 seats(ish) else I'd say Mx5 - although it seems rather expensive, with minimal discounts just now.

The VW is 'sensible' option, as DealDrivers says.

But Astra looks wise wins my vote!

  • If you're buying one of those, then it's likely that the overriding selling point would be aesthetics rather than economy, servicing, etc.

Given that, take the one you like the best. Personally, I'd steer clear of any of the Peugeot's, and would veer towards the Eos.

That's got the advantage of not only being the best looking, in my view, but also has pretty good reliability and rock solid residuals.

Apparently the double folding roof of the Eos is giving problems.

Personally, given that there are better discounts on the Astra and it's cheaper to start with, I think my money would be on the Vauxhall. And that's not something I say a lot... :)

    Isn't the MX5 24K and rather large?

We hired a Saab and it was lovely but lacked boot space for the size of car

I would personally choose the VW Eos. But I read a review the other day saying the new 207cc was very very good.
Have you thought about waiting for the similar Ford Focus CC ?
