Wasn't that the boiler that was tested? The boiler could be working properly but there could be gas leak from a pipe outside.

True. I assumed the OP was referring directly to the blast from the vent when the boiler kicks in as that's what people are getting a gob full of and commenting on. He doesn't suspect there's a leak anywhere else.

He would have surely have eliminated that prospect had he still been smelling it when the boiler was not running.

I could be wrong but that does not appear to be the issue, it's the fumes from the boiler vent.

There is nothing wrong and there is no leak of gas. I know its not neat gas.

    As above.....
  • We had a Potterton proforma condensing boiler and some years back it started making a gas smell in the side yard. Called gas engineer and he checked the boiler and said all readings were OK. however the stink continued and after several visits they kept saying there was no problem and it must be the chemical they add to natural gas to give it as noticeable odour . However it just got worse and finally the boiler failed, the muppets could not get it going again and I replaced it (different company) I think there was something wrong with the gas burner or metering jets.

Turbine? Do you mean boiler? I don't think the OP is generating power!

  • Why are you not listening to my post?
I have lived here ten years. My yard is concreted with 6ft walls. If there was a constant smell of gas I would have got the gas board out years ago.

The smell is when the boiler is venting. Nowhere else. I know when a gas smell is present all the time its a serious leak.

Eg my boiler was venting yesterday at 9am, the joiner called round and walked up the path and got a nose full of fumes that smelt like gas. My engineer knows my boiler, he has checked the venting, checked the divertor valve, checked with a smoking candle that its venting properly and had the probe in the vent while it was running for a considerable amount of time, and not once did he say the smell was abnormal.

My mums boiler does the same, it vents some fumes out.

The jets were cleaned, the filter cleaned and hoovered.

Im not saying you are all wrong, just presenting the facts.
My house would have blown up by if there was leaking. My gas usage is lower than most people's and I know my usage of gas, its not expensive £52 a month for gas and electric.
