for example, I wanted to put it all with fund managers Rensburg would I contact them first?
If HL are the ISA wrapper provider, you do all the purchasing through them.Is it not normally considered wise to put it all with one company such as that or should I spread it around a bit, especially considering I've got this tax year's ISAs as well to decide what to do with too.
The ISA wrapper is the product, having that all in one place is easy, convenient and on the whole common sense. Where you invest within the ISA is a different matter. With £7000, you use 7 funds. It doesnt matter whether its 7 funds in the same sector or different sectors. No-one knows what the best fund in the future is going to be. Spreading it means if one doesnt do as well, at least you have the others.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. 7 funds?
I'd be hard put to think of 4 I'd want to put my money in.

Never heard of this fund manager Rensburg before. Where did you come across them?Trying to keep it simple...0 -
I like and use https://www.bestinvest.co.uk. They refund all intro commission but no anual comission. The thing I like is that they do give some general advice. If you go to their website and input your own particular profile they will offer a spread of unit trusts to invest in.
I should point out that other than being a satisfied customer I have no connection with bestinvest.Something Really Interesting0 -

I currently have investments in 21 funds - covering various geographical areas/sectors/asset classes.

BWD Rensburg are long established and highly regarded Fund Managers, most notably in the small cap arena-

Hargreaves Lansdown's initial charge discounts are, very often, higher than BestInvest's and, as you mention, BestInvest do not rebate any annual commission - they use Cofunds and FundsNetwork rather than offering a bespoke ISA service like HL.
Also, obtaining replies from BestInvest, especially via email, is often somewhat iffy to say the least - although their online fund research notes and, especially, their tracking of the managerial "roundabout" can be useful.

Right, here's their fund range on Trustnet from 1420 down.
Rensburg funds
No obvious outstanding performance in recent years.
FWIW the fund with perhaps the best reputation for long standing outperformance is probably Fidelity Special Situations run by Anthony Bolton.
Most fund investors probably have that one in the portfolio somewhere.Trying to keep it simple...0 -
No obvious outstanding performance in recent years.
According to April's Money Management Performance Tables, their UK Micro Cap Growth fund is 5th out of 55 in the UK Smaller Cos sector, turning £1000 into £2304 over 2 years - pretty decent performance in my book- and, longer term, their UK Smaller Cos fund lies in 4th out of 38 over 10 years.

Yes, this was an excellent fund some years ago before it became, IMHO, too big and unwieldy - its currently about £4.5 billion in size - severely limiting its ability to nip in and out of small/mid cap stocks meaningfully. Now only in 57th place in the UK All Cos Sector over one year and 25th over two.
Also, of course, the question of Anthony Bolton's retirement to bear in mind.0 -

Yes, this fund seems to have only been going for 2 years.I prefer a longer track record myself. The OP should also be aware that microcap companies are the riskiest of the lot.
Small caps had a good year last year but haven't done well at all this.Hence their returns aren't looking so sparkling. Alkthough there can be excellent returns in small caps, they're too risky for me - I'm happy with a more reliable if more staid performance from Special Sits on that sector and other wise prefer blue chip shares with higher dividends ( not in funds and therefore charge-free.. )

I was not recommending the Rensburg small cap funds to anyone, especially the OP  , as they are certainly more suited to the experienced investor for possible consideration as a small high risk/reward element of a large portfolio.
I was merely responding to your earlier post where you stated that you had "never heard of this fund manager".
