Best Bundles for BT Vision or Sky

Im due to move into a new home and since I've always rented privately I've never gotten Sky etc installed.

Now I'm looking at the deals but It's all so confusing!

I'm basically wanting a decent amount of channels to watch (preferably Sky1...does BT Vision have this?), the ability to add packages like movies, childrens tv etc, and I'd like to record shows or be able to watch evening stuff during the day.

I also want Wi-fi (is that included in broadband?! ) and a decent download allowance...I know I have to get a phone line in but I would never be using it so don't need a good call package.

I'm not really wanting to pay an upfront cost for anything, would prefer free installation and would like to pay around £25 a month but would be willing to pay £45 max.

Is this a lot to ask?!?!

P.S This is my first post on the site so I'm not really sure how much I can ask for....I've just read a few forums before and everyone seems pretty helpful ;)

Sky line rental £12.25 per month
Sky unlimited broadband (if available at your exchange) £7.25 pm
(Sky going wifi with the Cloud this year)
Evening and weekend calls to 01, 02, 03, 0870 FREE
TV - £20 for entertainment (doesn't include kids package) pm
£25 for entertainment extra (includes kids package) pm
A new customer will get Sky+Hd box, if you have to pay HD that will be £10.25 pm - you may be asked for installation fees payment upfront - depends on the offer for new customers, if you don't have a BT compatible phone line you will have to pay upfront to get one in - you can build your bundle online and see what costs come in at

Worth checking if you are in a virgin media area and what they can offer, hope this helps a little

BT Vision is Freeview, why pay anything for freeview?
It does have on demand content but you need a decent internet connection for that to work.
To answer your question no the only Sky channel on freeview is Sky News.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

The only reason to pay for Sky is if you want particular subscription channels that you cannot get on the free platforms. For most people this means movies or sports channels.
Otherwise, you can get a 'decent amount' of channels on either Freeview or Freesat for nothing.
BT Vision: as above, it's just Freeview with some on demand content, and locks you into BT's overpriced broadband service. It doesn't even work unless you have la minimum ine speed of around 2MBps.

How about going to Sky but on their freesat package so you just pay £10 a month for the ability to record and if you don't like that because you need more channels see if they can give you a good price to upgrade to the full package.

Why pay £120pa to Sky for the !!!!!! channels, when you can get Freesat and a PVR for no ongoing cost?

True but if the OP does not already have a decent PVR box then this could cost more than £120pa which Sky would charge for their 'recording functionality' and if they offer a free install then I don't think that is a bad deal really.

However if they already have a TV capable of either freesat or free view then this would be the best option for them if they can get away without watching Sky channels.

I appreciate that freesat or a free view box would have a one off cost though.

The difference is that Sky will charge £120pa for the use of their PVR facility...forever. 10 years of that will cost you £1200.

From reading again what the OP posted I think the basic Sky package would suit her down to the ground the only thing which could mess things up would be if the local exchange is not LLU forcing them onto the basic package for internet which is not very good at all.

@OP Can you post the details of your exchange from https://www.samknows.com and let us all know what it says?
  • Thanks everyone for your replies! I have no idea what OP, !!!!!!, PVR etc haha!! Anyways I've got built in freeview on my tv and it's HD compatible (unsure if that would make any difference though!)
I don't like the sounds of BT Vision now, and I checked Virgin, I'm not within a good signal area for them.
I reckon I'll just go onto Skys website and build a package up then, my daughter is only 5 months anyway so I could prob just get a basic package then add on the kids channels when she's ready to watch them...shall try and barter a deal too ;-) ha!
    Thanks again :-)
P.s....am I the 'OP' and what's this samknows exchange?!

Yep in this instance you are the OP - Original Poster (I think)

The site sam knows tells you info about the exchange that you connect to for your broadband

Click this link and enter you details in the box

This will bring up a screen saying what your exchange is called. Click on the exchange name on the left and look on there to see if you have whats called LLU available and check to see if (bottom right) if Sky/Easynet is available:)

Post back here what it says for your exchange.
