Short term broadband

    Hey.

I'm needing a similar service, preferably on a month by month basis. I have a sky broadband router, and a I'm getting a 54mbs wireless signal.

I'm still connected to the router, but as the previous sky contract has now expired, I can't get passed their activation wall.

Given that I have all of the necessary technology, is there a way I can access the internet without signing up to a long contract, and without paying for installation, which I don't require.

Any idea what the sky cancellation fee is for example?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Ted,

It seems not from my research without going for mobile broadband. I think the only way to get the Sky cancellation fee is to call up....

Is there a consensus on the best provider of mobile internet? Or does it depend on location? Can I expect it to be as fast as my broadband connection?

    Thanks for the quick reply

3 seems to be the cheapest. Or giffgaff if you don't need much data.

Coverage depends on location. You can search for coverage maps for both. And it can be as fast as BB but I haven't heard much about P2P/gaming performance...

It is very rarely an adequate substitute for ADSL or cable broadband.
And yes, it is totally dependent on location-much of the country has a weak or non-existent 3G signal.

Why do you say that? I get faster up and down speeds than with my ADSL....

Perhaps should have said, for a typical ADSL line.
What speed is your ADSL line?

4Mbps down and about 0.4 Mpbs up. I can get mobile broadband at 7Mbps down and easily over 1Mbps up.

So you live a long way from the exchange, but presumably right next door to a mobile mast!

Most people I know find it to be pretty much similar...
