school help

my son is in yr7 and hates it . Apart from getting him to school is there anything else i legally need to do? I am thinking of refusing to send him for the lesson that are causing problems / declining calls and not signing dentions

background is he always struggles he is on a iep and used to be able to sharped pencil and play with an elastic band on wrist to stop him distrubing the class but secondary school have stoped that and 2 teacher really dont understand him and there is a class supervisor in another lesson so the class have teacher for 10mins and 50 min with this man telling them to get on with it and shut up.........

also to get the stats grade in yr6 he was taught/ schooled maths for 2 wks by the school so the could improve there ofstead so he is now in too high a set and they want do anything about it and dont believe me.

Rather than trying to fight the school, why don't you try working with them? Fighting them is going to give your son the wrong message completely.

I'm sure the support and advice you can give would be appreciated. Work WITH them to improve things.

Why is he getting detentions? Is it his behaviour, organisation, homework, or something else?

First check the schools website and the ofsted report, see what they say about the school.

Don't argue with the school, don't go in on the defensive, talk to the school, talk with the people at the school. Have you got any information about what they said about your lad in primary school, use that to support your case.

Go and see your lads class teacher, if that dosen't help go and see the head of year, the deputy head and if all else fails go and see the head.

Your lads school years could shape his life, he should have a positive encouraging and inspiration time, everyone deserves that in his school.

Other alternatives is to look into getting a Tutor to help him at home, no one has to, it certainly helped me at school. Also to consider looking into other schools.
I am at a Crossroads in my life and deciding which path to take:coffee:

Can you clarify what you mean by 'declining calls and not signing detentions'?

    Hi
I think you need to be talking to the school to find out how they are going to be support your son to address your sons issues and also you understanding what their issues are and how you can help your son to address them.
If he has an IEP did he have support from the SENCO at the primary school and is he getting support from the secondary school SENCO ? As I understand it there should have been a full handover from the primary school SENCO to the secondary school so that they are fully aware of the support he needs.

Sorry to state the obvious but you're talking about your son's future and by withdrawing him from a particular lesson will mean that your son won't learn that particular subject. Depending on what that subject is it could have a massive impact on his future career prospects.

Let him attempt them, he will get them wrong, if this keeps happening the teacher will see that he is struggling.

With the maths sheets, he works through them and circles any he doesn't understand, Send in a note stapled to the work stating that he's done what he can and confirming how much time he has spent on his homework (working that is! - not sodding about!)

Why did the teacher refuse to sign his report? What is he on report for? Your post isn't very clear.

Is there any need to be so nasty Mildred?

OP have you tried talking to the Year Head or his Tutor?
