SpiralingDown wrote: »DS is 11, the school seem to be taking the same stance as your DSes. Every time I ask them to test him they say there's nothing wrong with him just a firey temper
He goes like this when he's frustrated, he was in a different class last week who have a classroom assistant. They had to draw a parrot, DSes birds always look seriously under fed, anyway the class assistant insisted that he plump the bird out a bit and drew on his page to show him. All hell broke loose because she ruined his picture, he doesn't like anyone doing anything to his work so just about lets his own teacher do it.
The school didn't even tell me as they're supposed to I only found out because DS had big streaks down his face where he'd been wiping the tears away
The school don't seem to want to know, DS was labeled lazy in year 4 by a teacher who didn't like him and it's stuck. I have a meeting on Monday with the school about where he's going next year so will broach the subject again.
DSes spelling has been a problem, linguistic phonics are pointless for him as he doesn't get it. In year 5 I decided to teach him the way I learnt, by writing the words out 3 times, his work improved but the next year the teacher wanted him to learn the way the rest of the class did. His dad died near the end of that year so they put his problems down to that.
The problems are greater when he has to write, if he uses the laptop he's fine because he can check the spelling and if he makes a mistake he can easily change it. His teacher knows this so allows him to do a lot of his work on it and bring it in on a memory stick for her to check.
In the INCAs tests he's 3 years above in maths but 2 yrs behind in english based on his age. He's excellent in oral work according to his teacher but when it comes to written work he gets easily frustrated, they just don't seem to be putting 2 and 2 together. I have been told it's genetic and DH had it so just want to be sure DS is diagnosed if he has it or not before he gets much older.
Morning Everyone. SD you must be so worried about your DS, my DS2 was diagnosed with dyspraxia when he was in Y4. he was very similar in that he did not want to write anything down. The school were great but the first thing I had to do to start to get the ball rolling on a referral was to go the our GP. They listened to the issues and referred him straight away to our child development centre for assessment. After this he got an alphasmart, typing lessons (he can touch type 30 wpm), sloping writing boards and was put on school action plus at school to get support. We also paid for him to go to DORE and this made a huge difference. HTH and you get the support he needsIf it wasn't for blinds it'd be curtains for all of us:dance:0 -

Morning everyone, hugs to those that need/want one and hope those of you with snow or ice are keeping warm, dry and surprisingly mild in my part of NI this morning and long may that last....I hate the cold
Anyway slightly embarrassed this morning:o....spent £60:eek: in Ts last week, was in a rush and just shoved the receipts in my shopping bags, so when I got home I couldnt find my petrol voucher:mad:, fired off a polite email and had a PHONE CALL(never put my no. in the email) from a lovely girl who apologised and sent me a £10 money card:T which arrived this morning
However, went to Ts last night, reached into the boot of the car to get my bags.......and found the flamin petrol voucher:eek:
Also got a nice golden dtd on a belkin laptop cooler with an OOD SEL of Jan 25th, so £30 back on my card, given with no prompting, a smile and a massive apology!!:heart2:Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.:heart2:0 -

Have spoken to GP but she wants him to see a councillor first to see if they can deal with anger management and see if this improves the situation. We have already done this and it helped for a while.
He has been put into a special needs class 1 day a week but all he done was plonked infront of the pc to watch a programme then answer ONE question to get a certificate. He told the tutor there that it was pointless and he'd wasted his time doing stupid things when she could have been helping him with his writing and/or spelling  He'd been there for 6 weeks and we'd voiced our concerns from the very first day. I'd even told them that if he needed help I was willing to come in but they don't like that happening.

SD im so sorry to hear of the frustrating stiuation you and your DS are in, i really hope that a way can be found to make the school start supporting you both and giving your DS the help and support he needs. it sounds to me like he has a brilliant mum who just needs to be listened to by other people
