His English teachet said he would get a head start with the typing that you will have to do in the world of work. He was diagnosed in year 6. If your DS has not been tested then you should ask the school. My DS1 would not have been tested if we hadn't pushed as he us a "bright" kid and copes well ie maskes it well. The only major prob he has is spelling and the amount of time it takes ti get the stuff pn paper. He has a reading age about 2 years above his actual age. HTH
DS is 11, the school seem to be taking the same stance as your DSes. Every time I ask them to test him they say there's nothing wrong with him just a firey temper
He goes like this when he's frustrated, he was in a different class last week who have a classroom assistant. They had to draw a parrot, DSes birds always look seriously under fed, anyway the class assistant insisted that he plump the bird out a bit and drew on his page to show him. All hell broke loose because she ruined his picture, he doesn't like anyone doing anything to his work so just about lets his own teacher do it.
The school didn't even tell me as they're supposed to I only found out because DS had big streaks down his face where he'd been wiping the tears away
The school don't seem to want to know, DS was labeled lazy in year 4 by a teacher who didn't like him and it's stuck. I have a meeting on Monday with the school about where he's going next year so will broach the subject again.
DSes spelling has been a problem, linguistic phonics are pointless for him as he doesn't get it. In year 5 I decided to teach him the way I learnt, by writing the words out 3 times, his work improved but the next year the teacher wanted him to learn the way the rest of the class did. His dad died near the end of that year so they put his problems down to that.
The problems are greater when he has to write, if he uses the laptop he's fine because he can check the spelling and if he makes a mistake he can easily change it. His teacher knows this so allows him to do a lot of his work on it and bring it in on a memory stick for her to check.
In the INCAs tests he's 3 years above in maths but 2 yrs behind in english based on his age. He's excellent in oral work according to his teacher but when it comes to written work he gets easily frustrated, they just don't seem to be putting 2 and 2 together. I have been told it's genetic and DH had it so just want to be sure DS is diagnosed if he has it or not before he gets much older.SPC #329 £471/£500 banked
