HAPPY BIRTHDAY 4P AND MKS
Having a bit of a panic, I have never ever driven in the snow and don't know how to, dreading having to take DS to school tomorrow. Oh has just said go for a drive...hmmm considering how clumsy I can be I don't think thats a great idea. Any advice? As said before I live on a hill, I am literally half way but outside mine and about 4 houses down 3 or so up is the worse bit.
Keep calm and drive steadily, it is incredibly unlikely that you will have trouble. The only trouble (literally) I've had in years of driving in icing conditions (15 years) is twice, once driving over a rather unused mini roundabout up a hill, but I only skidded for a millisecond before regaining grip, and secondly most winters on my own unsalted drive.
Tyres have a LOT of grip, I have stepped out of a car before and been surprised at how icy it has been underfoot when it's felt relatively fine when driving, and these are on very normal (mid-range) car tyres on very normal cars. Try not to worry, most of the accidents that happen in icy weather are from people driving around not respecting the road condition and what it means.
And don't worry about time, it's better to arrive late than not at all xNo Buying Unnecessary Toiletries 2023

Go easy on the gas and brakes, no sudden braking or acceleration, you can actually pull away without using any gas, just release the clutch very slowly and away you go, hopefully the main road will be clear...the worst part will be getting out of your road, are you facing uphill or down?
if you have an auto, don't even atempt it, they're useless in these conditions...good luck and be careful!!:)
edit get the OH to park the car at the bottom of the road now to make it easier in the morning!!"He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas" Benjamin Franklin

I love swearing when I feel it is appropriate and do it all the time at work (manage an IT helpdesk). However, there are rules that I try to go by..
1. Never use the C word
2. Only swear at people who you know won't be offended
3. Try to change system passwords to make the punters laugh, e.g. bigbum, enormousbottom etc
When I have an outburst (I am prone to them), I tend to use a phrase that my 5 year old daughter brought home from school a year or so ago - Ah Bingers!!
Ah Bingers!! is a great phrase. To me it says that I am not overly impressed with what's going on but nobody thinks that it is a swear word so everyone is happy.
Try it.. From now on every time you want to swear, just say ah, bingers!! I guarantee you will feel great and the person you are peed off with won't take offence.
Ah Bingers!! Perhaps I should ask that it be entered in the Oxford English Dictionary??:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Good one Shortfatscotsbloke ... I think it was in one of Billy Connolly's routines that they had made up swear words at home so that when the kids started copying them they wouldn't embarrass them or offend anyone else.

Fudge2 - you and your family in prayers xx
In the hospital my mum is in the nurses work 12hr 40min shifts so they do 2 or 3 and then have rest days. This seems to mean there is little continuity with which nurse is dealing with which patient. I am sure this leads to misunderstandings/mistakes and not being to talk with someone properly about the patients current condition.
I know the nurses work incredibly hard in understaffed conditions but the experience we ahve had of the NHS since my mum has been in has been awful. Some lovely nurses but more money needs to go in to the NHS to make it even adequate.0 -
mymerrywidow - I confess i have actually used cat milk in my tea before....it was icky, from what I recall it's not that diff to soya milk (which I don't like either) in fact - what is cat milk made from? is it soya?A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist0
