Definately want potatoes as we eat huge amounts of these, but would also like carrots, onions and beans. Youngest DD has allocated herself a largish chunk of the plot to grow flowers and she will be choosing herself what to plant, so will be an interesting mix between the pair of us.
It sounds like you've got it all under control. I don't have an allotment, I grow in pots in the garden, but have found the easiest things to grow are potatoes, carrots, onions, spring onions, tomatoes and cucumbers. Also easy are cut and come again lettuce/salad mixes, peas, beans and parsnips.
Until a couple of years ago, I knew nothing about gardening at all, but have picked up tips from my dad and with a bit of trial and error, do quite well.
It's lovely that your DD has decided to grow a little plot herselfIf she can be persuaded, then marigolds and some herbs are good for keeping some pests at bay.
I hope your first year goes well, you will have to show us some pics of your first crop when it's readyA clinically depressed person with a sleep condition. I'm in my own little world, but it's ok the people like me here

Ohhhhhhhhhh I've got a wee snippet of news for you all, I overheard a manager telling a shelf stacker that the crimbo stuff is on final reduction from Monday :j
I hope my Olympic selection packs are reduced
Do you think they'll be reduced as soon as the store opens?:grinheart “Truly Great Madness Cannot Be Achieved Without Significant Intelligence.”:grinheart0 -
Hello everyone, has anybody noticed that Jus-Rol have a freebie on Le Creuset.
You need to buy 4 promotional packs ( light puff sheet on offer in Tesco at the mo £1.05 ) and send £4.50 to cover postage so £8.70 total unless you get some rtc
Choose from 19cm pie dish 20cm flan dish or 19cm rectangular dish
in colours of volcanic or teal
Anybody find a cheaper way of doing it let me know I love this stuff:oI love to help people by sharing my bargains:o0 -
Hi all
Just popped on quickly before I start on dinner. Not caught up since last night so don't know if I've missed anything glitchwise?
Has MMW found her phone yet?

Most of the chrimbo stuff in my local store is more expensive now than before christmas, so I expect they'll be putting the prices up :rotfl:0

I haven't got a clue and tbh there's not much left in mine, just jars of Thorntons toffees, the olympic packs, the aero trees and jars of peaches in brandy.:grinheart “Truly Great Madness Cannot Be Achieved Without Significant Intelligence.”:grinheart0 -

Thanks again. Under control - umm, not. We have never done anything like this before and I am shamefully ignorant about growing food - would like my kids to have a better handle on where some of the food on their plates comes from. Whilst clearing the plot, my DD comes across the odd "leftovers" from the previous tenant and I can't even identify some of the veg for her - not good.
Love the idea of herbs - never thought of that!0
