Kitchen quotes seem high

Dont even consider spending £16k on a Homebase kitchen. They are the worst of all the sheds in quality and for some reason the most expensive. You could get a really good quality kitchen for that money, or save yourself 10k and get an Ikea kitchen. Ive fitted both quite a few times and I honestly believe they are pretty much the same quality though Homebase has better inside cupboard wire work. Eg magic corners etc.
As for the big companies and their fitting price. They are way overprice compared to independent fitters. How can they compete when you think about it. Big company big overhead. Indi fitter low overheads . A prime example of this is the kitchen Im fitting this week. Ikea kitchen. Ikea wanted £1500 and then their fitter came round, he quoted an extra £2k. My price for fitting came in just under £1750. This is in North Londoni have just had a quote (from homebase) for installation of 12 base cabinets and 4 wall cabinets at £5500,
currently i have a bare space room (extension) with wall to wall floor tiling. there is new electric points and plumbing in place all certificated. the points have been placed in situ based on the kitchen design.
based on their quote...i queried why i need to pay for removal of old kitchen when there is nothing there? this is non negotionabe they state.
although i have looked at granite (paying £4800 - just for the material costs) the quote is coming in at £16k excluding appliances and thats with the 50% advertised discount on kitchens0 -
thanks steve...yes i agree...but i got a quote from them to keep the OH happy lol the quality appears to be poor even in the showroom, flimsy put together and gaps in the drawers etc...but now he (OH) appears to be coming round to my way of thinking.
im awaiting a further 2 quotes from kitchen suppliers that appear to be better quality.
one thing i am confused about is ...i am looking for a high gloss kitchen that is mixed with a solid wood centre island....in the high gloss finish some are acrylic wrapped the other is acrylic (almost glass like finish)....which would be the better one?Give blood - its free0 -
Do you mean vinyl wrapped? Th solid acrylic would be the better door but just go for the one you prefer0

thanks....i did clarify with the salesman... they are both acrylic...so confusing one is an acrylic slab door (high gloss) and the other is an acrylic door which is heated together in 3 parts (almost like a sandwich with the colour placed in the middle if that makes sense)Give blood - its free0

would recommend howdens for a kitchen - we paid 3,000 and that included all units including a pull out larder and an island. it's a big kitchen and this was a great price. the appliances were extra - we bought them separately - and we paid about £2,000 installation - including flooring to be fitted. the kitchen looks really high spec, great quality finish and we love it! (we're in manchester)Aiming to be debt free by December 2016!

What style and worktop did you go for LilMiss?
Sounds like you got a bargain. We are looking at units only and supplying our own appliances and the price is still coming out at over £3k. Looking at Burford White with just laminate worktoops, feels a little expensive. Kitchen is U shaped with roughly 3mx2.5mx4m lengths, including oven and fridge housing + larder unit.0
