I might use a local fitter but I will get a couple more quotes from other stores first. I am not in a hurry to get it done. This quote is still lower than the very approx quote I got from homebase just over a year ago. If I remember correctly, it did not include appliances. It was just kitchen units and installation and it was likely to be between 11K & 13K. My kitchen isn't particularly big (approx 9ft x 10ft).

You say "our fitting charges" Do you mind me asking which firm you are with?

I don't mind at all. It's common knowledge I work for Magnet now, but have worked for a few kitchen companies, both chains and independents...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I have had a new fuse box with trip switches installed in the past 18 months. Can I assume from that that my kitchen circuit complies with these regulations? It replaced a very old, probably original one.

Probably, but not always. easiest way to tell is check on the consumer unit. If it states RCD on one of the switches (sometimes a larger switch) you're fine :)

I'd be reasonably confident that all of the above are at the 'simple' end of the difficulty range.

The entire flat is less than five years old, and is part of a large new build. The kitchen is entirely electric, so no gas. All appliances are remaining where they are (fridge and washing machine aren't even integrated) and not included.

The dishwasher will go right next to the washing machine, which I'd imagine is the most convenient place for it from a plumbing point of view. There's already electrics there, which the washing machine is using, of course.

The two people who came round to quote never pointed out any issues with electrics or plumbing. There were no specific electrics charges on the quote breakdown, and the plumbing charge on the independent (£3.5k) quote was just £250, so that's not bumping up the price significantly.

As well as I can recall without having it in front of me, the independent quote was basically £2,500 for installation of the six units and tiling, with an extra £500 to put up the shelves we want (he said he'd install supporting boards behind the wall). The other £500 included the plumbing and other miscellaneous costs which I can't remember right now.

Yup, should be pretty straightforward then, new builds of that time should be still compliant with current regs.

I'll cost up what we would charge for fitting everything you've mentioned when I'm in work tomorrow and let you know what it comes out as, to give you something to compare against...

  • If it was fitted in the last 18 month and done properly it will upto current regs.

  • Its easy to say without seeing the job but it looks like some things on there are quite overpriced.

Instead of getting a builder in to give you a quote try using a kitchen fitter. You;ll end up with a better job and Im sure the price will be less.

£500 pounds to fit some shelfs? I imagine you have plasterboard walls which will mean they will need supporting etc but £500 is a joke.

£500 for plumbing and miscellaneous costs?? Sounds like easy money if you can it .

How big is your kitchen and did this include appliances? Do the gloss doors get smear marks (however hard you try to avoid them)?

We have 5 wall units, 1 base unit with 3 drawers, 1 under sink unit, belfast sink, 1 150mm unit, 1 magic corner thing, an Iroko worktop, plus all the misc bits like bar handles, soft close hinges, skirtings/pelmets etc. Included a Bosch washing machine and Lamona dishwasher they were giving away for free at the time.

I actually find the gloss to be really good. It doesn't streak or get excessively dirty at all. And we have a toddler constantly getting getting her mucky paws everywhere.

Sorry, was a bit busy yesterday, but here we go:

I don't have an exact list of what you need doing, but basing it on fitting 8 units, 2 lengths of worktop with one joint, renewing electrics for a oven, hob, hood and fridge freezer, adding new electrics and plumbing for a dishwasher, fitting those 5 appliances, venting cooker hood, fitting a sink and tap, laying 10 sqm of laminate flooring, removing 2 sqm of wall tiles, making wall sound and fixing 2 sqm of new tiles. Providing new electrical certificate for works done. No gas work included...

    ...we would be charging £1870.54.

If no electrical work was needed to be done (other than for the new dishwasher obviously) you could knock a couple of hundred off that price.

    Hope that helps?

What sort of corner unit are you using? These are anything up to 4 x the cost of a double unit, In a well designed budget kitchen a double unit (1000) can be used with a single 600 door. Also full size doors are cheaper than drawerline units, how many drawers do you really need?

As for fitting, your prices do seem high to, where I am fitting would be 700-1k,

Edit, are you changing the layout of the kitchen? Cause your carcases should be fine for years yet and you do a simple door change

:money:Sounds Like a quote from Dolphin and Moben Kitchens !!!!! be aware of these guys even tho they have been put into administration they are trading again as Tesco Bathrooms !, upon doing some research they have simply licensed the name tesco and used this to trade under , when looking at the footer of there site you will notice that the actual company is called Mark 2 ! these people are the same comapany as Dolphin and Moben.

    Erm...completely wrong...

The only relationship Mark II had with Dolphin or Moben was as a supplier. (they were actually owed a fair amount of money by the HomeForm Group when they went into administration) Mark II are a distributor and nothing else.

As well as supplying Tesco with bathrooms and kitchens, they also supply bathrooms to Wickes, Grahams, Next, as well as a host of smaller companies)

I'd advise you to get your facts straight before you go tarnishing the reputation of a respectable company like Mark II and associating them with HFG...

There is no doubt the best way is to use a local fitter/tradesman who has been recommended to you , the other alternative is get stuck in yourself, I just fitted my bathroom to a hotel standard using bathhub.co.uk and it cost far less than these companies that advertise on the tv

I also find it rather convienient that you are promoting a new website (only registered on the 6th December 2011) a website that I may add doesn't provide any contact details, the only and happens to be registered to someone called Frankie (surname left out, as not to break the forum rules, but can be provided on request), who I am guessing, is you frankthetank1664...
