Was she the one who was banned from having animals and it was her sons dog but he was being really uncooperative?

I feel so sorry for the poor dogs.

Yes that was the one. She looked like she had quite a lot of issues in her life anyway and they did say that the floor of the flat was covered in dog faeces and urine - not ideal for humans or dogs!

It's probably against her Human Rights to take the dog off her though on a different forum!

They are a dog bred for one purpose, to attack and kill other dogs..

What makes you say that? Pits have been used in dog fights, but they aren't bred for that purpose, except by a few nutters.
Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.

I've got ADHD. You can ask me about it but I may not remember to answer...

Have the breeds you mention have a particular issue like Pit Bulls have with unsuitable owners? Do you feel they should be banned? I have only commented on one breed, one that is presently illegal in this (and many other countries) a breed responsible for 53% (18 deaths) of dog bite deaths in the US in 2010 (I suspect that rather less than 53% of dogs in the US are Pit Bulls).

I like a huge number of dog breeds not just one, how does banning four breeds of dog punish genuine dog lovers?

Ok, here's the thing. Its not the breed that has the issue, its the humans and banning breeds doesn't make the issues go away so its a pointless exercise.

They banned pitbulls so the idiots get staffies.

If you ban staffies the idiots will get rotties.

If you ban rotties the idiots will get GSDs.

If you ban GSDs the idiots will get Huskies.

If you ban Huskies the idiots will get mastiffs.

If you get mastiffs the idiots will get Great Danes.

If you ban Great Danes the idiots will get Shar Peis.

    etc etc etc.

Do you see where I'm going with this? ;)

Kryir-Good point re what makes a pit bull type. Came across a link once where approx 8/12 photos of dogs came up and you had to decide which was the pit bull. Had felt pretty confident at having a go as had owned/worked with several bull breeds and...... I got it wrong!! It really wasn't that easy.

It was really hard to watch that but they are right to highlight the problems with the Act.

I think I've seen a few of those (and got several wrong myself), here's one
    http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
    and another
    http://www.dogexpert.com/Pitbull%20terriers/Misidentification%20of%20pit%20bulls.html
Not to mention that with the shock of a dog attack, perhaps witnesses being at a distance or poor lighting depending on time of day, and not having a photographic memory, I imagine it would be hard for witnesses to get a dog breed right 100% of the time. So are the stats quoted really representing one breed - or a group of many breeds and crossbreeds that are lumped together as a "Pit bull"? If it's the latter then of course the figure will seem higher when you're comparing it to stats of single breeds.

You'd be surprised, there are a few already. Shar Peis were bred to be guard dogs and fighting dogs originally.

    I've been Money Tipped!
One of the issues with Pit bull terriers is that they are more likely to cause severe harm if they attack. Its not only the jaw strength its the way the Pit bull bite that is the difference to other breeds. The "Hold and Shake" bite style.

They also ended up going nearly extinct due to the lack of aggression and the farmers eating them (they were also a herding dog in China originally to protect livestock as well as palaces)

Its ok I know exactly what you mean unfortunately.. the rescues are full of them poorly bred and full of health problems too a lot of the time :(

The freeads are full of them though and crosses of them and they aren't a breed to be taken lightly I agree in the wrong hands they too are a powerful breed, combined with untreated health issues well..it worries me for the future of a breed I've grown to love.

I can see them ending up on 'the list' at some point too sadly.

Something needs to be done but what?

A quick look on Youtube will show otherwise, this hold & shake is common in many breeds

(watch out - Shih Tzus could be the next status dog of choice? :rotfl:)
