Car in garage and interior destroyed by Rat (Advice Needed)

As others have said as you are already making a claim its still a claim so adding the cost of new upholstery won't effect future premiums. If you wanted to though no doubt you could go through the garages insurance if you could prove the damage wasn't caused by you prior to the garage having it. It would also no doubt mean it would take even longer for you to get the car back whilst they wait for their insurers to decide what they are doing.
With regards to the mouse/vole/mole/rat/tiger/elephant issue once the seats have been replaced and a valet carried out you wouldn't know anything different but you should still go over the car and inspect it thoroughly to ensure all damage has been repaired before accepting the car back including all electrical items.
If you plan to hold out for a new car or some sort of refund, well then I suggest you get used to walking and catching the bus whilst still paying your monthly loan payments!! The only chance in hell you have of the car being written off is if the mouse/vole/mole/rat/tiger/elephant has destroyed lots of electrical wires/components and even then you'll only get the current value of the car you won't be getting a brand new one.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
OP reject the car and the offer to replace the interior your insurers sound a right set of skinflints
if you were with someone like aviva and explained your wife was pregnant i would say they would be understanding
i wouldnt want the car back after an infestation
ive spent the last two years here at work trying to get rid of rats and the damage they do
i am very very aware of weils disease and for anyone to dismiss it as in this thread is in my opinion insane0 -

OH here we go, now its gone from a single unproven 'rat' to a whole infestation :rotfl:
We still don't know it was actually a rat either. Could of been a mouse, hamster, gerbil... but no, now it's a 'rat infestation'.
Sheesh... the drama in this thread really is better than a soap opera! :T0 -
1. pay the excess for your damage
2. have a stern word with the VW manager, tell him not to claim off your insurance for the interior damage, and hope to correct this by claiming off their insurance as the car was in their care.
3. if no joy instruct your finance company of the situ with the interior, they wont be happy their car has damage from a VW repair shop and can help you with that situ.
4. still no joy intruct your insurers that VW intend to claim for damage they have done, and stop the claim for the interior.
5. be as assertive and negatiable as possible but have in your mind what you intend the outcome should be.
6. remove car after all else fails, take to another repairer, have the interior replaced and take VW to small claims for costs.
the car wont show any trace of a rat mouse rtc in there once the interior has been replaced and has been cleaned, use of steam cleaner will steralise the carpets and then odour nutroliser will cut out the smell.0 -

Here, I've got some spare punctuation, you can have these if you like:

Also, and this is fairly important, many rodents have teeth that constantly grow (the reason you give pet mice/rats/rabbits specific chew blocks). and can/will gnaw on all sorts of things to keep their teeth sharp/down.
Wiring is one of those things that if you've ever had a rabbit in the house, you rapidly learn to block off, as they love a nibble on the TV cables...0
