Its fair because you agreed to a £700 excess when you took out your insurance and you stuffed the car so are claiming on the insurance to get the damage repaired and therefore the excess applies.
I have agreed to pay the excess for the damage I caused, but they are trying to incorporate the interior damage into the insurance claim against me. I don't see how this can be fair as this will result in a higher insurance claim against myself. This should be carried out from there end.0 -
As I said before take some photos of the rat damage and tell the garage you will go to the papers they love a good story like that.
At the very least if seats have to be replaced I would try to get them to replace with full leather. It makes the car smell lovely.0 -
Well as the insurance company is standing the loss for the rat damage then i dont think you have a leg to stand on,legally they are responsable yes as the damage was done on their property but as for not wanting the car back afterwards is just plain stupid ,Sounds like someone here is being downright childish about this problem ,so what a rat got in it can happen to anyone or any garage which is why most garages i have worked in always had a cat or a jack russel around as the workshop pet to stop this sort of thing including some big foodstuff companies i worked on years ago which is no doubt not allowed under all these silly rules that abound nowdays like being to have a fag in the workshop or a decent water fight in the summer and kick the dog when it relieves itself up your toolbox. This sort of thing can happen and does abiet not very often so accept it and let the garage repair the car for you and use it ,as for wives that dont do as their told then join the local mosque and tell the inman that a mere woman isnt doing as shes told and needs a good talking too ,but all joking apàrt once its done you will never know its had a rat inside it and as for taking it to court then your on a loser as only the theiving coniving lying solicitors will win trust me this i do know from sitting on the bench many years ago .0

OP, i think you are being very silly regarding the rat issue, how would the RAC know when or where the rat entered the car? it might have been living in the dash board for a while before the crash. As far as the payout goes a claim is a claim and the extra cost of your seats wont add onto your future premiums any more than the origonal crash damage will.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Your motor Insurer is responsible for any damage / faulty workmanship by their chosen contractors eg the garage.
They generally cover the damage under the policy and then claim off the contractor at a later date assuming the garage have been negligent which they may not have been0 -
Hang on. So you don't want the rat damage repairing on your claim, yet you don't want the car back. The only way you wouldn't get the car back would be for it to be written off, and the only way that's going to happen is if you're insurance company value the damage at too large an amount to fix, which would mean adding the rat damage to the claim.
You're not getting a new car.0 -
Just to add, I've got a spider in the 'restoration project' on our drive. I'm well proud of that car but I'm terrified of spiders. I've seen that film.. Arachnophobia.. thats it.. they're out to kill me.. I can't go near the car again.... aaaaarrrrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!
No seriously, there is one living in the corner of the windscreen. It's huge at 2-3mm across, I'm sure its there looking at me wanting to drink my blood. Maybe I'll catch something from the germs of all those flies its been eating...
Oh my god... I might catch maggots... they might eat my brain.. I might get flies crawling out of my ears...
Oh.. hang on a minute.. I'm 30 and its never happened yet. Maybe I'll be ok? Maybe not! I saw a cat on the bonnet the other day.. with his poo-germ ingested backside sat on the bonnet. The little s*d even licked my hand when I stroked it and I'm damn sure it must of licked its !!!!! in the last day or two so I think I'm going to get worms now too. God knows if my immune system is strong enough (especially after all the cat poo I picked up as a toddler which built up my immune system).
Oh my god.. I can't live with all of this stress.. and to think.. not so long ago I was spending over *£400* a month on it month after month - shock and horror!!! Please someone.. tell me what I can do?!?!?!?!0 -
