I just wanted some advice. my partner ordered a phone and free samsung tablet from this company last week. When it came and he opened it the table box seal was sliced open and the box had some damagem , he rung the company straight away and the lady assured him that they open the gifts to check them before sending them out. He never even removed the tablet from the box because we wanted to make sure he could transfer his old number to the new contract which it turned out he couldn't. He sent the phone and gift back recorded delivery within the 7 day deadline and the have sent is straight back saying that it cant' be returned as the packaging was damaged. He spoke to a lady again and she says that there is no record of the call and free gifts are never opened. I have emailed them with a copy of my phone bill showing the 4minute call to them on the day it arrived and am waiting a response. Just wondered if anyoone has any advice.
Thanks kathryn

If it was the only reason for sending back then in the worst case scenario it is possible to 'transfer' the number and it is a pretty easy process.

That said, would it not be more reasonable to 'make sure' before ordering not after? Sometimes I feel really sorry for the companies...
  • T mobile wouldn't allow him to transfer the number because his old contract is with them and the new contract was still with T mobile but with a different company. a friend said to port the number to a pay as you go when contract finishes in a couple of weeks then port it to the new number but dont' know if there is a 30day wait.
Besides its the principle of the thing, not sure I want to give my business to a company that blatantly lies.
Like you I thought transfering the numbers would be a easy process but it clearly isn't.

AFAIK, not just T mobile, all mobile operators decline to port your existing number with them to another connection taken with same provider, from elsewhere.(They allow the port between MVNOs and themselves eg: O2 allows port to TESCO even though latter uses O2 signals;;same with voda and Talkmobile)
Unless you are upgrading from T mobile team itself, you have to switch operator to keep your number.
I'm finishing my voda contract in July.I would ask PAC 30 days prior, get an O2 connection from a third party with cashback and then port it.

Vodafone and O2 allow transferring from PAYG to contract within the same network.

Can't comment on any others, but o2 transfer your number from an o2 contract to a new o2 contract.

I've heard about this from a friend of mine.He was with O2 for ages and they did it for him.I thought it was a goodwill gesture rather than routine.I couldn't risk a useless new connection(without my old number),if they say no after buying a contract.

Allowing to port the number within the same provider is not rocket science, but just that the providers being grumpy:mad:

No, not a goodwill gesture, it's their norm (currently).

But if you are cautious about this, you can always get it in writing from them by using their online chat help and getting a transcript emailed to you.

So can you transfer a contract number to a payg sim card on another network?

Yes - you should post your own thread to ask though. just request a PAC code from your current network and then use this to port over your number to the PAYG sim.

note that if you are still within your contract you will get billed for the remainder if you use the PAC.
