Why don't you employ this 19 year old to check with the Jobcentre that your adverts are not being edited?0

Just looking at and advert on JCP and although I would know to send an email it says look at the website (and quotes an email) and follow the instructions there.

We don't advertise our professional posts in the job centre etc and we still get some really pointless applications. The jobs require a very specific postgraduate degree and chartered membership of the professional association and we get lots of applications from people who just have GCSEs and have absolutely no experience in the field. I don't have a problem if someone doesn't have some minor requirement, but applies because they are sure they could do the job. But this is just lunacy though as they simply wouldn't be able to do any of the job.
I once recruited for a "Company Secretary" - I can understand that some people may not be aware of the nature of the role, but this was quite clear from the job description. Nonetheless the majority of applications were from secretaries and school leavers with an RSA in word processing!0 -
I'm in the same situation at present: last time we advertised a job I only answered those who were shortlisted for interview and had 2 or 3 quite 'shirty' emails a little while later.
So this time: I am sending a cut and pasted thankyou to every application with a date for shortlisting and an apology for anyone that hasn't ben contacted after that date and best wishes for the future/ feel free to apply again for future vacancies.
Wish I'd thought about setting up an auto reply first from a dedicated email account! bah.
I have already had applications from people that clearly do not fit the job descriptions needs and I am cycnical that this is as a result of the job centre forcing the unwilling and over fussy to apply for XX jobs a week!Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.0 -
I have 20 years experience in purchase ledger and yes the job centre make me apply for jobs paying minimum wage and junior roles saying the reason is 'you are not working' when they know as well as me I will not get an interview for them let alone a reply.I have already had applications from people that clearly do not fit the job descriptions needs and I am cycnical that this is as a result of the job centre forcing the unwilling and over fussy to apply for XX jobs a week!0 -

I think a generic response that thanks the applicant for their application but says they're not suitable can go a long way.
The job centre has a lot to answer for. I have a friend looking for work in translation who has been told to apply for jobs as an interpreter time and time again. It's a totally different qualification and she says that legally she couldn't do the job, yet the job centre keeps making her apply for that and similar positions.
She has frequently said that she wishes someone would reply and point out that she's not qualified just so that she has hard evidence to show the job centre and prove her point.0 -
I am disabled, and explained what I could and couldn't do for the time I was signed on a couple of years ago, and got on fine with the advisors for most of the time, until towards the end when they started a new idea of sending jobs to me directly that some person I'd never met decided I could do, and said I HAD to apply. Some were tidying the shop floor based stuff (I can walk for about thirty seconds with difficulty), another was sorting mail over the christmas period on your feet all day. Another was a cleaning job. I said I physically couldn't do them, and it was on my agreement that I couldn't do it either. They reponded that they realisedI couldn't, but I had to apply, go to the interview if I got one, and at that point explain I couldn't do it, or they would sanction me.
Luckily I got offered an office job at that point I could do, so I didn't have to waste everyone's time."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -

I am so pleased that someone has seen sense here. It doesnt take that long to copy and paste a generic response and it will a long way with the applicant. Alot of employers require you to send applications via Email now anyway, so how hard is it to reply with a basic message? I have applied for 60 jobs since being unemployed and Ive had replies from 4 and only 1 interview. The lack of interviews doesnt bother me so much but just not acknowledging my application really grinds my gears.0
