Looks like I'm as normal as everyone else too! My normal evening routine is washing up, making dinner, maybe do 30 mins exercise on my step machine, then TV / internet / Xbox until about 10.30pm when I can't keep my eyes open any longer and need to sleep! We go out to the cinema or pub maybe twice a month, and only ever at the weekend.

Last night we got into our pjs at 8.30 and watched a DVD in bed. That was the most exciting thing I've done in a while!

Yeah that's right, when someone asks what I'm doing after work and I tell them, I'm just bragging to try and make them feel inferior (rather than simply giving an honest answer to a question). What I should do, is lie and say that I'm watching TV with a ready meal on my lap so as not to make the person asking feel bad..

Honestly, some people on here are unbelievably bitter. All this kind of attitude says to me is that they're actually not all that happy with their TV dinner every night, and are envious of anyone who doesn't settle for that. You're obviously likely to get more "I stay in every night" replies on here, as people who are out every night won't be posting on here regularly.

OH and I tend to be out 3 or 4 nights a week. Tonight and tomorrow we're having dinner at friends'. Having people over for drinks on Saturday and may go out afterwards. Having people over barely costs anything (especially as hopefully they reciprocate), so money is a pretty poor excuse not to have an active social life IMO.

If the OP is honestly happy with her social life as it is, I guess that's all that really matters. For me personally, at this stage in my life (mid-twenties and childless), I would go stir crazy if I came home from work every night and did nothing, and I would feel like I was wasting my life somewhat. On the odd occasion I go a week without doing anything after work I actually notice that I feel down.:o

But then, I don't do a job that I've a passion for, so to me work is a necessary 35 hour distraction from the rest of my life, and I like to pack a lot into my spare time.:)

Your comments highlighted in red come across as someone who has very little self esteem and needs to 'feel' they have the power to make others feel inferior but trust me - you don't have that power. Most people can see that the only thing inferior is your self esteem. If it somehow boosts your low self esteem to think that others are envious, then go ahead - I like to help people.

I think a lot of people would have the energy and time to do more after work if we were childless and we only worked 35 hours a week..
The opposite of what you know...is also true
  • You're getting ready for being a Mum of a small child. Coming in, cooking tea, bit of housework and sitting in front of the telly is the sum total of a lot of women's lives for the first 8 years or so.
