Talktalk 18 month contract

Hi - am with TalkTalk for phone and bb up for renewal beg of March. They've offered an 18 month contract with 6 months half price (am on the essentials £6.50 package) which is not as good as their £12.75/12months for new customers.

I'm wary of an 18 month contract - has anyone managed to renew for just 12? Also they charge £9.50 for line rental if you pay a year in advance - how does that work with 18 month - do you have to pay 18 month in advance or pay a whole 2nd years worth without knowing if you'll want to stay with them for bb 6months later??? 18months is heck of a lot to pay up front.

Any advice/tips welcome - thanks Urk

Check out the TT Member Forum ... plenty people in there have had much better renewal terms.

    Bear in mind ...

    1. You don't HAVE to renew - you can retain a rolling 1 month contract as the standard rate.

    2. You do HAVE to ring retentions if you want a better deal than anything they offer by post/email.

So what are your other LLU options?

  • When my initial 18 month contract expired I renewed for 12 months. The year in advance period does not have to match your contract period but obviously if your contract expires before the annual period does and you did not want to renew then the question of a refund arises and I have not checked that situation.
By the way, I just asked for and got a new 12 month contract at the half-price £3.25 a month for Essentials. I had to be 6 months or more into my current contract to qualify.
  • Hi,

What i would say to do having worked for TalkTalk for quite a number of years is, call up and get through to the optuions team (retentions) either in northampton or Preston as they are able to offer much better terms of renewal than the overseas centers

Secondly dont accept the first offer they give you as they have an anverage spend persutomer that they are allowed and i know from experience on a month basis they never normally come close to their targets which means that you should be able to haggle a really good deal with them, If you do tie into an 18 month rather than a 12 (which they do offer) then they will give you alot more discount than they will on a 12.

Any questions let me know and i will try my best to help

Hi - I have phoned tt a couple of times and I have asked for renewals but I don't think I'm getting through to Preston or the other one you mentioned. Also I have three different versions of how much notice I need to give to cancel - a month, 15 days or 7days - do you know which it is as I'm at a month to go tomorrow??? Also do you literally need to ask for the team in Preston/other???

    thanks a lot - Urk

Asking for your MAC will get you through to retentions fairly quickly...
They don't officially exist, they will be described as cancellations probably.

Thanks Macman. Would still appreciate it if someone could clarify how much notice you need to give and also whether its from your go live date or the first full month - my go live was the 21st but the last person I spoke to said the contract ends on the 28th of March. TT are a bit confusing.

Normally 30 days, so any time up to 30 days prior to your start date anniversary (not the end of that month). It may say in your online account.

Or the T&Cs on their website should give a reasonable indication. (Unless you're on a legacy package which had very different T&Cs). But I'd presume 30 days as this seems to be the industry standard.

I'm with Talktalk Plus..I renewed for 12 months and 6 months half price, is that a decent deal? Just curious as I can't see anyone on my package, from looking around here and on the TalkTalk Members Forums.

Should I maybe try phoning retentions instead? It was arranged via a cold call from the call centre.
