Oh Hester you sound so fed up but I have to say the bit about reading out of your ear did make me chuckle!

If you about, bung it on high for an hour or so, then move it to Auto. If going out and leaving it, make the stock cube liquid with boiling water, and then bung it on Auto. The Auto setting is designed to get things hot then put it down to simmer. It will need all day.

As DG says I put the stock cube in with boiling water.I had it on medium setting all day-it doesnt have auto,but I have another sc that does and things are usually fine done on that setting.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Decorating and discovered some interesting stuff. B&Q pink to white emulsion is good to see whete you have painted but has a peculiar smell more so than gloss! Burning scented tea-lights soon disguises the smell!0
