Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 24th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Frosty here this morning so hubby will need to scrape the car before we set off.
We have a tummy bug going round at work & a problem with our computer system so it's all great fun, not.
Cottage pie for tea, I'm defrosting it in the fridge so just need to heat it up when I get in, we'll eat it with HG cabbage.
Time for breakfast now, scrambled eggs & tea.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • Morning all, before and after!

Thanks for the new thread, Hester.

I fell off the MSE-OS wagon for a few days at the end of last week but, having spent £120 at the vet over the weekend (cat is fine and insured so some of the money will return) I need to stop faffing about with luxuries and make the best of what I have.

The forecast last night was for snow but I've checked this morning and apparently we're just going to get rain. I shall wait and see what transpires ... The plan was to go to Mass this morning then do housework and head out this evening to a Stitch'n'!!!!!. If we've snow then there will be a lot less going out, a bit more housework and a snuggle in front of the fire!

Going to be making Shepherd's Pie today - the lamb has defrosted overnight so I can get the filling in the slow cooker when I've had my coffee. Am thinking about eating less meat so looking forward to menu planning on Thursday ...

Morning Hester and all typing / following. DW on, casserole defrosting, WM on. Hoping for a better day here today. Yesterday my world stopped as my body and mind decided that they have too much to cope with and I had (my first) a major panic attack. Luckily I ended up at the doctors so he was able to tell me what to do and how to catch it before it gets that bad again.

This is VERY unlike me but I guess that my body has just had enough. So I spent yesterday in bed apart from collecting the children and still feel like a piece of cooked spaghetti this morning. However I also know that I must try and help myself. So no coffee - peppermint tea this morning and despite the downpour I will take the dogs out for a short walk when I get back from the school run. I have set myself the goal of clearing my floordrobe and room today.

Miffy - lots of hugs for you.
Lou - are you reading? Lots of people are worried about you. Hugs for you too.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning all

I have a horrendous sore throat - well painful more than sore i you know what i mean? started yesterday afternoon and got steadily worse - i've barely slept.

Anyway good news is today is weigh-in day and I have broken thru the 3stone barrier :j - i had 3lbs to lose this week to hit it and i lost nearly 5 :D next week will be a gain for sure as i'm at my mums the weekend ....food will be within limits (she's bought the slimming world magazine to cook out of it bless her) but i usually drink my own body weight in alcohol while i'm there and i cant see this weekend being any different ;)

More dramas yesterday DS1 got suspended from work - entirely his own fault although a slight over-reaction by the management and he is expecting to get sacked.

Hugs to those that need them

    Afternoon everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

MiIffy - so sorry to hear of your loss, hugs x

Raining and chilly here this morning. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Dinner last night was smoked sausage and mushroom pasta with creme fraiche sauce.

Tonight I'm not sure DS1 will be going to rugby training as he's stated "he's getting bored" with it. I have to say in a way I can't blame him, they've been arriving to play games and the other teams haven't turned up, training is not always happening etc, can see that it's going to get to the point where so many of the lads drop out they don't have a team, such a shame but they are all in exam years so that won't help.

Work wasn't too bad for me yesterday, I was in the cash office, but my other colleagues who were advising were run off their feet and had to shut and lock the doors to stop people coming in! All of them were stressed by the end of the day - can't see this getting any better - although we did have someone off sick so we were a person down. I can forsee people going off sick with stress, will have to wait and see.

Put a load in the WM overnight so am now going to get that out and put on the airer, forecast is for rain here later so won't bother putting it on the line.

Best go and get myself into gear.

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

    Good Morning All

JackieO - oooh not good, hope the dentist sorts it straightaway and it isn't too expensive :(

JC - well done with the weight but also sorry to hear about DS1

    (((hugs))) to whoever needs/wants one.

Have DS at home today with a sore throat and cold, he will have to fend for himself for a couple of hours this morning as Tuesday's I take DD into college as she starts late and also pop round my mums. The rest of the day will be pottering around, think will try and get my kitchen windows and blinds cleaned, its not a job I enjoy but worth it when its done - vinegar at the ready.

Dinner tonight will be pizza's (were on special at Mr T's)

    Hey guys,

Not posted in a while, been really down, and just not felt like it. Why is january the month where money just dissapears?! We're only just treading water (mostly because OH won't invoice anyone!!!) We're getting a rebate for our council tax though, have been lowered a band which is great.

Still being as OS as possible, not got much choice hahaha. Maybe next month things will improve..

    Morning all,

Brrrr so cold here this morning, have had to put the fire on in the lounge to warm it up, heating has been on and gone off so house felt very cold.

Raining here too so wont do any washing, only a small bit to do anyway.
DD has an interiew this morning, for her next college placement, its at the creche where I work, she has to go in and meet the lady and have a chat with her.

On the way back I need to post another ebay parcel, I still have one to pay, whats the betting they will have paid as soon as I get in ?? :p

Dinner tonight will be a beef casserole, I might do jacket spuds with ours, then I can get away with less casserole, and theere might be enough for another day :D, will do dd a veggie version.

JackeO hope you get your tooth sorted.

    Have good days all xx

  • Morning :)

Last night we went to my mum's to visit my sister (who was over from Germany with her three boys for the weekend) and my mum wound all those boys up... Poor Eliza just got plain fed up with all the noise! But we got fed, and my sister got a cuddle :D

I did so much yesterday, all the housework (Washing, washing up, Bread, tidying!)... and I booked our flights for our holiday, and the insurance. Ordered Christening Invitations and some lables for my HM cards. And I booked an appointment to Register Eliza and sorted some banking!!! Oh and ordered a few bits and pieces I needed from mothercare! All that was AFTER I walked the school run :D

So today I have put on the WM and BM and I am planning on having a slow day. I need to buy a few bits from ASDA on the way to school this afternoon... but today I am planning on napping :)

Dinner today, LO Butternut Squash Soup and Reheated whoopsied rolls :D

Hope Everyone has a good day x

emsf I hope you feel better soon x
Jackie hope the tooth gets sorted with as little money as possible!
Miffy I'm sorry to hear about your mum ((hugs))
JC well done on your weight loss... I can beat that though... I've lost a stone in less then 2 weeks! But I cheated ;)
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!
