Can I have your slow coker beef stew recipe please?

Just bought my first ever slow cooker and its still in the box three weeks later as I haven't got a clue what I'm doing!
So your beef stew recipe will be fabulous as you tried it out for me!! ;)
    Thanks! :T
:rotfl:'recipe' is a bit grand sounding really-Im more of a bung it all in and hope it tastes ok kinda gal....but it usually does :D Tbh it turns out different nearly every time, but casserole /stewing/skirt or shin beef is great in the sc.

OK so today I used a pack of casserole beef from Sainsbugs-457g
    4 carrots
    2 parsnips
    2 celery sticks
    1/4 large swede
    2 potatoes
    small leek or onion
    a handful of pearl barley
    " " of brown lentils,but I've also used red

Chop the veg into chunks, add to the meat. Then I put 1/2 pt beef stock(cube),the lentils and p barley in and a glass of red wine, and some French seasoning I got from Ald! a while ago and mix.Its been on all day and is smelling good.It may need the sauce thickening up a bit(shock horror I just add a bit of Bist0 :o)Thats it, we're having with crusty bread.Hope it helps you-dont be scared get it out of the box,you know you want to :)

Hi, everyone. Just caught up on your day's traumas.

Uolypool: £800 !!!!!!!! What sort of school is this where parents can afford that sort of layout? We are going to the Greek Islands later on for 2 weeks for less than that, and for 2 of us. I suppose there is all the skiing instruction, insurance etc to consider, but I wonder at the school for laying this on in the present financial climate. If it were a reasonable amount I would suggest she did loads of baby-sitting, coffee mornings, cake-making etc to raise funds but she'd never manage to raise all that. Poor girl, and poor you, and poor all the other parents who will be in the same position.

Islandmaid: Thanks for your words of wisdom. The house has had 36 viewings and this is the first offer so I'm over the moon. As I've said though, we've been here twice with my Dad's bungalow and been let down, so I am prepared. My DS2, who is living in the house, is sick of lighting 'real' fires, scrubbing everything to within an inch of its life, sweeping up leaves and combing the lawn into stripes. My DGS, (autistic, aged 10), will be deprived of his estate agent duties. "This is the master bedroom," he intones, flinging open the door and ushering slightly bemused viewers inside. One viewing was interesting. My DIL to-be opened the bathroom door to show viewers inside and revealed DGS having a wee. He didn't miss a beat. "This is the family bathroom," he informed the stunned onlookers chattily over his shoulder.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Well, it's church magazine week so I'd better get started.

Hope all sleepless ones have a better night.

((hugs)) miffy very sorry to hear that, hold you're holding up ok
uolypool that's so much money :( the whole family could go to aviemore for a few days for the total cost of a trip like that.
monnagram DGS sounds like a top class estate agent!

Evening everyone. I'm just checking in to give myself a kick up the !!!!, have been really mopey and meaning to get things done then just zoning out and nothing is getting done. Masters applications are making me want to crawl into a hole, even if I save the £3400 this year(which i hopefully will) that only gives me £5400 total which still really limits where I can apply and is making me feel hopeless and all "what's the point?". Ideally I need an extra 2 or 3 grand. It's easy to say "get another job" "set up a business" "do surveys" but I already work 20+ hours a week on top of uni and surveys are proving to be a waste of time that could be better spent on degree work. This has just turned into moaning sorry, I appreciate that things like that suit some people but not me.
I'm going to visit family this weekend and will pick up any of my old stuff that I can sell, but also a crochet hook. I'm sure I have one lying around and I really want to try some little projects for when I have that odd bit of spare time where I want to relax rather than go out, exercise, read etc. I saw some lovely crocheted coffee cups and toys on the blog of an MSEr(can't remember who though sorry please pm me if it was you) that I would like to try making.

    Thanks, sounds fab!

    Last question I promise ;)

My slow cooker has three settings high, low and auto. Which do I put the stew on? As you can tell I am a beginner at this cooking lark!!

    Many Thanks :T:T:T

    Noswaith Dda everyone,

Miffy - So sorry for your loss - hope you're holding up ok.

Swampmonster - I agree with RosyRed, just go for it - all my slow cooker meals are experimental and different every time.

I was taken out for a late birthday lunch by some friends from work this afternoon, it was so nice, sitting by a log fire with a glass of wine in the afternoon - how very ladies that lunch!;)

I had made some chicken noodle soup for tonight before going out, I boiled a chicken carcass yesterday after stripping it to make chicken pie yesterday - I'm getting the hang of OS I think, I even got a load in the WM before going out! :p

Hugs and snuggles to all those in pain or worried.

    Evening all
Fed up & !!!!!! off here, I'm supposed to have 2 -3 hours help per day at work, so far I've had 1 hour in the last week & a half, the computers are down, my right eye has deteriorated again so I spent today holding bits of paper near my ear to read them (it's called eccentric looking) it means you look through the bits of your eye that do work. I've bu**ered up my knee ( don't ask how, I know I'm too old to be attempting that position!). Daft Doris has been in hysterics all day as we have a new Team Leader starting soon, Doris can't cope with change & can't do her job properly, keeps wittering on about how she needs allowances made because of her age, well no one make allowance for my age & I'm 4 years older & can now only see out of my ears.
Some idiot child decided to roll in a puddle so he could be sent home, so another dozen tried it, they didn't get sent home, they just had to sit in wet clothes. We had a new pupil start today who we were warned 'needs watching', I caught him carrying two other boys round by the throat, I decided I'd better do more than just watch & eventually persuaded him to put them down. It was 94deg in my room as the machines were all running & the heating was on full! And best of all? I get to do it all over again tomorrow.
    Hugs Hester
