Removal of personal details from 192.com..?

Hi, i don't know if this the right section for my question but i could find nothing nearer to it.
When i do a Google search of my name, personal details about myself come up and im not happy about it. I did not consent for these details to be stored even if they are held in the public domain, i mean, they'd be harder to access were they not on 192.com and Peopletracer.
I have found how to remove myself from 192 by going to the source of the information but, im a little confused.
I want to stay on the Electoral Roll because it helps my credit rating, but if i remove myself from 192 am i removing myself from the electoral roll??????
Thats my question.
I've heard that theirs a box you can tick when filling out your electoral roll which opts out of this online submission of details...
Im sure i'd have ticked it, but anyway, will removing my details from 192, 123 and Peopletracer remove me from the Electoral Roll?

Thanks, Have a nice day.

No, it just makes sure your details are NOT on the 'full' list that councils sell as a database to make money out of us. Doesn't take you off the electoral role.:)

The full electoral roll for your county is held with the local council. You need to be on this for various reasons set down in law, such as being able to vote in elections and your presence on it can be used for only very specific means, such as credit agencies and political parties.

The edited register, as previously stated, is for sale to anybody who wants it, typically marketing.

192.com and the likes is directory enquiries, you can opt out of this by going ex-directory.

As far as I understand, it may not make any difference whether you tick the box or not on the electoral roll whether or not you appear on sites such as 192.com, but you can remove your details from 192.com. You will still appear on the electoral roll. There is a thread/discussion about this:

192 uses the edited electoral roll.

If you appear on 192.com it may be from the phone directory

To be removed from 192.com electoral roll (only), complete this form and send it to them:

    http://statics.192.com/rel-3.46/downloads/C01.pdf

To be removed from the phone info on 192.com you need to go ex directory (via your phone provider).

It appears that 192.com have changed their link to the Opt Out PDF again

I found it today on this page why your details are on our site

When you arrive at the webpage, look for the sentence starting with:

You can also remove your details from 192.com...

There you'll find the link to download their C01 form (Record Correction Form) to print out and send off

    Hope this helps:)

192.com are not the only ones in this business sadly!

    peopletracer.co.uk
    - removal form here: peopletracer.co.uk/pdf/pt_dr10_form.pdf

These guys even have the first part of your post code visable on their site! Try it for yourself (replace firstname and surname with your name):

    peopletracer.co.uk/partner/index/source/yasni/name/firstname+surname

The worst part is that this appears on Google's search engine. So the first part of your postcode is visable to anyone. (Is this even legal???)

tracesmart.co.uk - you have to e-mail them to send you the form! Details here:

    tracesmart.co.uk/privacy-policy/

If anybody knows of any other People Tracing service please reply to this thread. As I'd like to remove myself from their databse.

The sad thing is that they are probably millions of people who don't realise their details are available on the web!

Apologies for the non-friendly links. The spam blocker won't let me post them as I'm a new user.

All but (IIRC) 2 LA's in the UK sell their ER databases on. Don't ask me which ones don't.

  • I have just become aware of these sites and am pretty mad at having to do the work to get removed - so much for the governments 'protect the individual!'. I note that with tracesmart you even have to pay them £10 to find out what info they have on you - so you cannot even find out if they have removed you from their database. Can't the authorities do anything to protect us! Is the Info Commissioner a completely gumless wonder?
  • This happened to me, despite the fact that I always opt out of appearing on the section of the electoral roll that is visible and was ex-directory.

I cancelled my BT landline a while back, which might help, but I will check via Google from time to time as apparently 192 re-instate some entries after you have requested removal.
