  • What a lovely thing to happen FTM, such a kindness from JENNY. This Old Style Life is full of the very nicest people isn't it? Such a contrast to the gloom and doom that is in our faces all the time on the TV and in the Papers. It gives me more hope for the future when we help each other even with little things than all the action from the powers that be, it's a good world in many respects, Cheers Lyn xxx.

    Apple porridge
Place these in the bottom of your slow cooker.

Has anyone tried this in a wide mouth thermos?
    Using hot water of course!

I love this idea of paying it forward, sort of like karma :) which I really do believe in.

Had an eventful week, ending up taking pusscat to emergency vet on bank holiday Monday as he had cut his legs and was shaking - think he might have fallen through some chicken wire or barbed wire of which there is plenty here as we live on a farm.

Not deep wounds but needed stapling, anti-b's and pain relief and a follow up visit to our vets on Tuesday - thankfully he is insured and more importantly okay but a week with a bucket on his head and not going out is going to drive him stir-crazy. Back next Thursday for the staples to be removed and given the all clear hopefully.

Tuesday night at 10 had a call from next door asking me to sit with the kids as my friend needed to take her hubby to A&E - thankfully he is okay, they put him on a drip and by the time they got to him he was feeling better.

Then babysat this morning as they were both working, now they have gone off on holiday so I'm looking after the cat and chickens - sheep don't need much looking after thank goodness :rotfl:

Booked on a course next week - it is something I have been trying to study on my own but failing miserably. As it is so last minute I got it for a quarter of the list price and it will be really good on my CV. I have to admit, I cannot study at home / online, I need to be in a class-room where there are no distraction (internet)! 5 days then 2 - 4 hours homework each evening  will be batch cooking this weekend for sure :rotfl:

That's really nice to hear about your steamer FTM. Sometimes I think it makes things even more enjoyable if they've been gifted by someone else, even if they are preloved.

Kate - sorry about your pusscat - hope he is getting better. The cats on my parent's farm look permanently battle scarred. I'm never sure if they have been fighting or had some sort of mishap as there is plenty scope for accidents!

We finally have above zero temperatures:j:j and I can see some daffodils getting ready to open out which is very exciting. It's still not terribly warm but very windy - I have washing on the line today and it is certainly getting a good drying.

I was in Costco last night and they have fruit trees for £9.99. I figure I have room for another 2 or 3 in the orchard area so I may go back next Friday as I have a day off. I thought now would be a good time to plant as we can see where all the spring bulbs are so there is no danger of damaging any when planting the trees. I haven't mentioned it to hubby yet - he thinks we have quite enough fruit trees but I would like to be able to keep some of my friends supplied too.

My little feathered friends are very agitated today, I think the sparrowhawk must be around somewhere. They are all looking quite alarmed. I hope he finds something vegetarian to eat and leaves the little birds alone - not sure it works like that though!

Costco also had Yorkshire tea bags with a free storage tin - I didn't need any more tea bags however I loved the tin (which has an image of the Dales countryside and holds 480 tea bags so is pretty big) so I bought it. Shouldn't need any more tea bags in 2013.
    I can't resist nice tins - I think I may have a problem:o

Hello all....i hope your all ok and the animals have got better..

What an eventful week here..both girls had awful colds..son had it too all snot and tissues...hubby got an infection in a tooth root..very painful and he had a few days off work...cost a pretty penny to get it sorted..antibiotics 2 types of those plus emergency treatment..but totally worth it for him...never seen in him in so much pain..it was that bad he couldn't even drink or eat. I caught the cold but thankfully it wasn't too bad..i had a few early nights and felt much better when i got up.

I have been in the garden for a few days this week...cut the grass and weeded it all...bought some bedding plants and planted my potatoes in tubs..got some seeds on the go too...totally disinfected the chicken coop and dug over a little patch for them to scratch at...
I managed to get some laundry dry on the line and cleaned the windows inside and out, the girls watched me with bunged up noses and tired eyes bless them.
We have managed a few lessons this week too...we learnt about plants and trees..and made some models from loo-rolls and cotton balls...we also made some marble effect paper...that was fun...a big tray with shaving foam in it..a few spots of paint..mix it and then plop paper on top..squish it down ..then lift and scrape off foam...let it dry and bingo marble effect paper...got quite a bit of it now..Iris just loved doing it..i pink, yellow, blue and then a mix of all 3...lovely.
We also made some prints...a tray, lots of paints all mixed up but not too much plop paper on it and gently press it down..lift and lay flat..this takes hours to dry..we got some lovely prints and shapes..

Simon is on holiday now for a week..i am going to take advantage of it and batch bake and fill my freezer again..the girls will be outside shadowing him.

So that was my week..i didn't spend much..milk and i did buy the girls some new trainers each..how was you week ladies?
    lots of love

Hi all, glorious sunshine here today, is a bit cloudy at the moment but has been gorgeous and warm. Got 3 loads of washing on line, weeded the front border and planted my broad bean seedlings, jet-washed the patio. Got all the windows open airing the house through.

Other half is working on a car project, changing the gearbox, which he had 2 friends over helping with yesterday so I was on catering duty - he was happy as he gets cake when other people are around. I made D&DD's apple braid and it was lovely (all gone now though!) He's hoping to get the car running today which would be great as it is in the garage and I can't get to my freezer :D

Pusscat has been signed off as fit and healthy by the vets so that's all good, the insurance phoned up yesterday with a query so seems like they are trying to find a way to get out of paying but don't think they will manage it.

Did my course this week - passed first exam but won't find out about second exam for 2 weeks :( I don't like waiting :o

Got another course Wed/Thurs this week but it's in London so a bit of a pain to get to. Going to look at my options later today.

Off to sow some seeds now it feels like spring has finally arrived :T
