Hi all, how are you?
Happy birthday Ftm, it sounds like you've had a fabulous day.
DH cooked tea last night, wait for it, from the menu plan! I know!!! Menu all planned for the coming week too. Very happy.
Am off out for coffee with a friend tomorrow and then home to catch up with some knitting. The blanket is coming along but boy is it huge!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
SM - glad your dad is mending so quickly, he wouldn't be pottering about if it was uncomfortable, men don't generally do they? and glad your party was such a success, though how it could have failed to be with all the lovely things you made and took wouldn't seem possible, I'm sure they were apppreciated. We have had quite a wet period down here but our grow bags have not become mobile yet, are you sure it wasn't a crocodile in disguise?
KAZ - hope you have had a nice coffee with your friend today and glad the menu glitch appears to have been sorted , bet you'll be glad when the blanket is finally finished. We have just planted out some more peas in the polytunnel. and DH is currently putting up another net and frame in the garden for a different variety that are ready to plant out. We also put out 25 sweetcorn in a block in the garden this morning. The courgette in the poly has flowers open, but they're all male at the moment though there are some female ones coming along and I'll polinate if I need to with a feather. Just seen that the rows of coriander and sorrel we planted a few weeks ago have finally come through but we have lost one of the pumpkin polants to the slugs, the other one looks OK. Hope everyone has a good week Cheers Lyn x.

Well, another day of spectacular rain here. Kittie's predictions were spot on:( I think my strawberries are so waterlogged they won't ever fruit. I did think about putting some straw around the base of them but think that may just add to the clogging up. I really don't know what to do - they are growing but I expected them to be showing more signs of life by now.
Mrs LM - I have some baby sweetcorn seed which I was about to sow in a growbag before the atrocious weather. I thought I was too late but maybe I should pop some in and see what happens? I found a recipe for pickled pumpkin recently which I was given at a hotel in Port Dover, Ontario which we visited a few times. Maybe I should try pumpkins too
Kaz - hope the blanket is coming on nicely. I'm envious of your skills - please post us a photo when it's done so we can be nosey.
I'm off south tomorrow (again) so I'm about to take something from the freezer for hubby's dinner. It's easier to leave him something which he just needs to heat - that way he can't come to any harm and I know he has eaten properly.:)

Evening SM - having consulted the gardening guru (DH) his suggestion is to start the seeds germinating by popping them into the airing cupboard in a tupperware box with a lid , put some very damp kitchen paper in the bottom of the box and the seeds on top spread out at least 1" apart, pop on the lid and leave them for 2 days, check them and you'll see the little hairy root, if not leave an extra day. Plant up the seeds that are sprouting and leave the rest until they are all out. Pot them on into small pots to get a good root system going, under cover, kitchen windowsill is brill, when they are 3-4" high pop them in the growbag in a sheltered spot you never know you may get a crop. Good luck. Pumpkins need lots and lots and lots of compost dug in to the plot where they are going to live. Then lots and lots of water. They are a bit tempramental and we have only had success on the lowest part of the allotment (it is on a slope) where it is always damp. Think it might be a bit late to plant out now but DH says start them off the same way as the sweetcorn and you never know!
Have a good trip south, you won't notice any difference in the weather though, it's been dreary and grey and cold all this week and we are fed up with it - no matter, there's always something to laugh at even if it's only me !!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
THAT weather was forecast by PC in my forecast, I am truly gobsmacked as is my family. Forecast a month ago as thundery deluges, large hail and local flooding and he said it was 75% accurate. No doubt about it, I will be getting another sub when it runs out. Arghhh dd has a massive and very strenuous sporting event in the midlands this weekend, involving dangerous swimming in open water. We are having the children as from today, why the heck do they do these things. Got to keep my mouth shut as usual or I`ll end up nagging. I have to say it: more of those weather events in july and 85% accuracy. Such scary weather
I`m going through my document file next week and I am making sure all details are in there too like bank accounts. You never know, and I am putting it nearer the front door in a safe place. It is just a concertina file with a handle
I am blooming stocked to the ginnels with foodstuffs again, I wanted to run down and go minimalistic but couldn`t do it. Too much cyber whatsit and bad weather around when everything could turn upside down in minutes. I have even got three weeks cash in the house, fortunately the house is a safe place. Wouldn`t take much for cashpoints and electronic tills to stop working. Oh flaming heck, I am not normally doom and gloom but I feel like putting the drawbridge up on a bigger scale. Smaller scale and life is lovely and close to nature as always
Dh started his private pension this year and it is paid in one sum as it is cheaper. They blooming took out double the tax they should have, flipping heck you do have to have your wits about you, so much must get swept under the carpet. We had to get an accountant onto it and hope that we get it back quickly
Hope you are all well and that family members are healing0 -
Its my birthday on Tuesday and kids have been asking what do I want and being honest can think of nothing I need that they could afford individually so might ask them to club together to buy me a subscription to Piers - as one of my children is in Melbourne this will make it easier as he doesn't have to try and send me something..........I never thought i would consider a sub to a weather service but with all the others being so basically useless I think its worth it........Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

PAH the good thing is that you can send the complete copy to your family group, so they all get to share your present. I got mine for my birthday and I am doing it again, it takes a bit of getting used too and you have to go a day or two either side of each date and you need to take in the % accuracy. Look at the red R number and if it is 3 or higher then things will get intense
Lovely beautiful day today with the children and out all day tomorrow. I love teaching the `almost five year old` how to use a sharp knife and how to make scrambled eggs. He so relishes standing on steps and learning how to cook. I don`t have worries about `dangerous` tools as they need to learn to use these things safely under supervision and that is how I learnt. Having made tea, they ate every single scrap0 -
Morning all,
On the subject of birthday gifts I too needed nothing but got as as surprise a couple mugs and plates with "love" and "hearts" so that each time I have a cuppa I am reminded that they are/were thinking of me.
If you can share the weather forcast with them thats great but try for a wee personal treat for you too, not necessarily expensive but something you would appreciate.
Enjoy your virtual cake and the best wishes for your friends from this and other forums when the time comes.0 -
Morning Toughies, we have sold the tailer tent and it was collected this morning - so much better for it to be used than to sit in our garden, they collected it at 11 o clock and seemed to be very pleased with it - result!!!
FTM - how's Heather? Hope she isn't still waiting.
SM - How was your trip down south? We had a very nice but breezy day yesterday, walking the dog was a pleasure and so nice to be able to spend time in the garden without a long sleeved top!!!
The Polytunnel is amazing, I am currently harvesting tennis ball sized beetroot, lettuces, rocket, peas, salad leaves, basil, parsley, oregano and new potatoes. The courgette has fruit set, the tomatoes are all setting trusses of fruit and the climbing french beans are going strong. It really is the best investment we've made in a long while!
Hope everyone is well and that no one was caught by the awful weather last week. Have a good day all Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Me too kittie, as long as they're supervised and know the dangers of using such tools then why the heck not? I'm am dithering however, whether or not to let my 7 year old on the sewing machine. I was never taught any of my skills and I have had to rely on youtube and here really. I feel like I have missed out and don't want my children to feel the same way.
What do you think, is she too young to have a go on it? I'd supervise her (practically sat on her knee holding her hand!) but with my machine it's all or nothing (basic john lewis model) you can't adjust the speed. I don't know what to do.0
