Hoglet we have seen news of the cyclone on the news and I thought of you, one reporter is actually in Auckland.
Those poor people on the Islands, and it says on the news that help hasn't been able to get to some Islands. As I understand their homes are not very sturdy so are damaged easily and there has been a great deal of damage.
Take care
Much love

oh thank you Candlelight.
Yes we're hearing that about 80% of homes in Vanuatu have been destroyed, which is almost incomprehensible really. Terribly sad, but yes as you say, I suspect that many of the buildings were not terribly sturdy.
I believe the far north of NZ and the East Cape will get/have had the storm pretty badly, but we wont see anything like the destruction in the islands. Auckland is just a bit wet and windy - we are quite protected down in South Auckland but someone at work, who lives on the North Shore which is more exposed, has arrived and reported no damage where he lives.0 -
How can the world still be in denial about global warming when storms of this magnitude can wreak the havoc they've created on the islands and destroy whole towns and cities and Venice is slowly but surely being drowned by the rising seas. Surely people aren't so blind and naive as to think it couldn't happen here? I remember the 1987 hurricane very vividly and that must have been a very mild blow in comparison to this 210mph winds are unimaginable, unless you've just had them blowing your lives away. What will it take to make TPTB sit up and take action? I don't think anywhere is actually immune to these natural events and it surely is in everyones interests to change the way we live to stop global warming and all that it brings.0

FUDDLE how is that bunny getting on? I hope she's used to you all now and starting to interact with the girls, she's such a cutie, she's an Easter Bunny isn't she?
Why encourage her to post again? She said she was not going to post again and it should left at that. There was a lot of unnecessary unpleasantness that the forum could do without.0 -
Because she's a friend and because I care about her and because she's one of our regulars on this thread, but mostly because she's a human being who was distressed in the past by other posts and I would like her to be able to post again if she wants to, she might not but I'd like her to know she could if she did want to. I was at fault on one other thread and she caught some of the backlash over that which wasn't fair so the least I can do is offer the hand of friendship over here, Lyn xxx.
I remember extending the hand of friendship to you too pet over on the preppers thread not so very long ago, and I do so again now xxx.0 -
You are indeed a good person Mrs LW. One of those few genuine people. Really mean that.
Sorry if I was a bit harsh but maybe it's for the best if she no longer posts or takes a break from it.
Anyhow I shall retreat into lurkdom...my mutt needs walking0 -
Have a nice walk LR I've just got back from walking Docky and it's amazing out there. The cloud has gone, the sun is warm, all the wild blossom looks like snow on the branches and there were celandines and speedwell shining up from the grass verges while the birds were building nests and singing their little hearts out, it was so lovely, hope you find beautiful things too, Lyn xxx.0

Morning everyone,
Well, some exciting decisions being made at Hoglet Towers - we are seriously looking at selling our town house and moving to the countryside with some land. Still commutable - just - but we are currently seeing suitable properties that seem to fall within our budget. This has always been our dream.
It will be a lot of work and the budget will be tight, and it might be another 6 months or even more until things actually happen. But I'm reading more around the subject, looking at what livestock we would keep and the associated costs, learning about essentials like fencing and liability insurance, and I have to admit I'm quite excited about the potentials.
I'll keep you all posted
Love hoglet x0 -
Exciting times Hoglet, keep us posted. If it is possible to make it happen then I hope you will - tough it may be but nothing worth doing is easy.0

Hoglet, as Kate says exciting times. You have so much to look forward to it and I hope it work out. I know how much you love your animals and would like more, and it sounds to me as though you have green fingers, so you would be able to grow so much more.
Good luck and keep us posted
Much love
