What is a good car for long distance commute

So at the moment I own a 2010 1.3 Petrol Suzuki Swift, and was wondering if this would be ok for a daily commute of 165 miles, roughly 825 miles a week and roughly 43000 miles a year.

or should I be considering something else?? If so what would you recommend?

Thanks

    43,000 miles a year warrants a diesel.

So what's your budget. 30k plus I'd hope for a commute like that.

Agree with the other poster got to be a diesel with those sort of miles 43000 miles at say 50 mpg on a good diesel on my maths equates to a fuel cost of nearly £5500 about 860 gallons...even my little 106 diesel would cost £4200 a year

Fuel aside, any car is going to depreciate rather fast with the mileage increasing by 43k a year - a diesel less so hopefully.

For me it would have to be a luxury car as the seats, ride, noise insulation will be so much better than many other motors. Old model Jag XJ TDVi would fit the bill, but you need the services of a good independent Jag mechanic.
