any advise anyone ?
You might be fine, but I assume that you'll have general anaesthetic and you'll probably have stitches in your laparoscopy cuts, assuming you'll be sterilised laparoscopically.
Things may have changed now, but I had 2 x 1cm cuts when I was sterilised 24 years ago, each with one stitch, so it depends on how well you get over the anaesthetic (new types don't last long in the body so there are fewer after effects these days) and how soon the stitches are removed. The surgeon will explain this to you beforehand. Just prepare yourself for another day or two off work, just in case.0 -
I think they do the Sterilization proceedure as Keyhole surgery. They didnt mention anything about stitches......
I am getting really scared now.......I was scared to ask too much as i am a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to hospitals. But now i am starting to panic.....0 -
aww dont panic u will be fine, its really not that bad we were just warning u not to rush back to work as u may not feel up to it, especially if u do a physical job
i am so glad i had the ablation as i dont bleed and after spending months of feeling tired etc due to excessive bleeding its such a relief and i am sure u will feel the same
take care and do come back and let us know how u get on

I am getting both done at the same time. I was booked for sterilization and then because my periods were so heavy (sorry if TMI) they got me booked for the ballon thing at the same time. I sit at work so dont have to walk about or anything, but I have a very low pain threshold.....
I am thinking I should have asked more questions at the time, but I was scared to -thinking it may put me off going.....DUH.....0 -
i didnt feel in pain after the op which is why i decided to do a marathon 3hrs shop the next day duuh not a good idea, as hub kept telling me but course i didnt listen lol
came home had a couple of painkillers and a hot water bottle on me tum and felt fine... seriously i wasnt in pain unless i went stupid so pls dont worry yrself just make sure u have some painkillers and dont go overdoing it after the op
oh but i did tell hub they said no hoovering or dusting for at least 6months heheWhen you know better you do better0 -
The worst you should feel after ablation is a mild period pain (I didn't even have that), so don't worry about it - Just think of all the 'light' days to come. And as you're having two procedures done at the same time, it'll all be over in one go. Believe me, you'll be fine and the benefits you'll get afterwards will far outweigh any worries you might have beforehand.
And make sure you take shykins advice and get your family to do your housework until next Christmas.0 -
I haven't had ablation done but was sterilized 4 years ago.
Felt terribly sick for a few hours after the op but the pain and discomfort afterwards aren't bad. Much like period pains, nasty but not unbearable.
You will have three tiny cuts (each have a stitch or two) supposing you're having it done laporascopically. My tummy muscles felt a little weak for about 6 weeks afterwards, but I haven't had any probs other than a fungal infection in the cut in my belly button whilst the stitches were still in place. (sorry if TMI).:wave:0 -
Well, Had my op yesterday. All went well. Had a General Anisthetic and never felt a thing. 2 small incisions in the tummy where they went in for the laporscopic sterilization. Had the balloon Ablasion as well. Had plenty of morphine and pain killers yesterday. Felt weak and tired for most of the day so just rested.Got pain killers home with me, so not feeling any pain so far....So glad i went through with it.
just taking it easy for the next day or so.
hope this helps anyone thinking of opting for any of the above.

I bet you're glad it's all over, but you'll never regret it, Niceday999.
You shouldn't take too long to get back to normal; they've probably clipped your fallopian tubes (rather than cut or tie them) so there will be no internal healing, just the two little cuts where the laparoscope went in. Bear in mind that the cuts go through all the muscle layers, so they're not strictly 'minor' cuts and you shouldn't over exert yourself, but they'll be healed really quickly.0 -
so glad it all went ok, didnt we tell u not to worry lol
just dont go silly and u wil be absolutely fine and hopefully will never see a period again!!
