If You actually disabled data roaming and cellular data then you will not have been billed. It's a valid bill. Try to see if you can work out a payment plan or get it reduced a little. This is such a common occurrence that I am surprised some people still fall for this crap! Bottom line - Do your homework before traveling with a smartphone next time.0

If I had a £1 for every thread I'd seen about people trying to get out of paying roaming charges.........
I'm afraid you're going to have to pay up, see if they'd be willing to set you up on a payment plan.0 -
OP I guess you didn't see that news programme on roaming charges on Australian TV over Christmas. One guy got hit for Aus$13,000 IIRC and he hadn't used the internet either. The programme advised people to turn off mobile data roaming and even showed how to do it.0

As this is not the first thread about Iphone users getting bills for data after turning off the data roaming - or thinking that they did, then is there a particular 2nd "switch" that they have to turn off?
It seems to be too common a complaint for all of the posters to have been careless or technophobic idiots.
On the other matters,I agree about taking an old basic handset on holiday - but I have an Android as my normal handset which has a standard sized sim. Always ensure data is off as well.0 -

I don't think any of the people on the programme I watched were idiots. Some had been caught out despite the fact that they had bought fixed price data roaming packages only to find out that there was no indicator to tell them when they had reached and exceeded the limit of the package. Some thought that they were using the hotels wireless network when, in fact, they were using 3G.0 -

Well if data roaming was off (Which it is by default) then no data should be downloaded. The 3G/2G icon doesn't even come up on the iPhone.0 -
Thanks all. I didn't think I was an idiot either but obvs there is more to this than just turning your roaming off, my friend who I was travelling with has a BB, turned hers off and incurred no charges at all.
I will speak with the t-mobsters again today and let you know how I get on.
Thanks again and have a good day.

I've not seen anyone complaining that their phone used data with Mobile/Cellular Data turned off, so it seems like a very simple way of preventing all these problems.0
