Roaming phone bill of £650 from t-mobile

Options
Hallo

I am new to this site and would welcome any advice anyone could give me.

My mobile provider is t-mobile and I have just returned from a trip to Australia where my phone was cut off after about 5 days because I had incurred £600 odd fees for using the internet whilst out there. I have now not been able to use my phone for a month and have phoned t-mobile on numerous occasions who insist nothing will be done until I pay this amount

Please can somebody help me with the following:

1) I dispute the amount because I did not use the internet while I was there.
2) How can the bill have been allowed to get so high?
3) I have not signed a contract with t-mob so wonder if I have a get out clause.
4) Is there another complaints body that I can go to about this as I am hitting a brick wall every time I phone t-mobile and it is costing me from my landline each time I phone them.

Very annoyed soon to be EX t-mobile user!

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you.

    1) I suspect you have some kind of smart/superphone which you have autosync/updates enabled plus you did not disable roaming data.

    2) The charging for roaming data is not the same as on your home network and inclusive bundles are not included.

    3) By using the sim card you agree to the terms and conditions, it is up to you to read them at your leisure.

    4) Eventually you will have to pay the bill, ignorance is no defence :o, perhaps you can negotiate a payment plan to pay th remainder of the balance off.

Do your e-mails come in automatically on your phone? Did you disable data roaming? What type of phone do you have?

The others have covered the other questions.

If you want to leave you'll still have to pay the £650, and an early termination fee opn top, normally thats the monthly contract amount x the no of months left.

It is a hidden gotcha - they don't call them smart phones for nothing.

It's not T-Mobile's responsibility to monitor your phone usage - it's yours.
  • Thanks all for your quick responses.

I have an iphone, I disabled the roaming and no emails came in.

That maybe so, however some apps update in the background, hope the handset had a great holiday :o
Your plan is to secure a payment schedule or face a trashed credit record :o

Complaints over erroneous iPhone data roaming charges

Disabling data roaming is supposed to stop them from doing this.

I agree Grumbler, I don't think the handset/network is all at fault though and the OP needs to learn how to manage their handset to avoid future episodes, or take a basic handset on holiday instead. This month I have left data off on my handset , somewhere along the line there is 8kb of usage, all I can put it down to is some data allowance has appeard on the bill late, I don't think the OP will get away with the whole amount being waived though :o

    2) because there is no lower limit on the usage. The bill is not produced in real time, only when the data charges come back from the 3rd party roaming company, which can be days later.
    3) a signed contract is no more valid than a verbal one. You have accepted the contract by using the phone until now. Even if you could end your contract now, you would still be liable for the charges.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
