Hi Just thought I would drop in with a Beetroot tip I found on the web, I have tried it and several (critical) gardening friends have and we have all been converted. Tip from Newxzealand gardener.
Don't pickle fresh beetroot in plain vnegar, all you get is the taste of red vinegar. Use equel parts white vinegard and the water you boiled the vinegar in, the original tip said also an equel part of sugar but we half that as we dont like it sweet.
You will find the water used to boil the beetroots has retained all the flavour and you will not find a lot of difference between preserved and fresh beetroots. Even People who don't like pickled beets enjoy the result.
Best wishes

Some great pics of gardens.. wish mine was as neat as your's Tallgirl!!
I'm hoping for no rain one of the days this weekend, so we can get out and fix the greenhouse and dig over the veg patch.
This week i've managed to plant my rhubarb and asparagus, not holding out much hope for this as its a bit early but i'll tuck it up with some fleece and hope for the best.
Seedwise i'm not going well, a few chillis have sprouted and a couple of celeriac but no peppers:(.. i think i've time to plant some more so i'll do this tomorrow, along with peas, kale, squash and anything else i find lurking in my seed tinMortgage amount at 31/12/2011 £166,050 now £0 as at Sept 21 - 15yrs 4 months early.0 -

I think it should, hence the correction in my quote. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I should plant some stuff really, shouldn't I?
Problem is I get SO distracted with rugby. There's not a chance of me getting out in the garden tomorrow, but I suppose I should figure out how to grow celebratory welsh leeks.0 -

Did we really ought to wind him up. He'll have a bad enough day tomorrow brought on by the Irish, but for him the worst will be over before then.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Thanks for the comments it's not all my hard work I got someone in to do most of the hard graft. DH is useless at things like that and to be honest so am I.
I'm hoping the trees could grow like minirettes With short side stems but I'm not quite how sure how that would need to be pruned.

Allez les Bleus! Still hoping you get the backlash.Bloody inconsiderate of Merv the Swerve to pass away; don't need the Welsh having even 1% more incentive to win.

And yes, gardening at this time of year is flippin' awkward when you work all week and the rugby's on at the weekend. Does limit things somewhat. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Quote from Gardeners World. I plant mine in pots in a cold greenhouse middle to the end of April. If you are further north then nearer the end is best to avoid any late frosts.
Thanks John, I'm a little too early then with my beans aren't I!I shall take your advice and give them another go. I'm in Warwick so not sure which direction that is from you but not too far so I will go with your timings. I was going to dig a bean trench this weekend, do you think I should still do this?
