I've got two that have taken well. They're still in pots, and I didn't know you weren't meant to let them flower. :o

Well, it's because you want the plant to put all its energy into growing roots and leaves the first year, to make it sturdy and strong.

That's probably why you're really supposed to take cuttings in late summer/autumn, so the main plant has already flowered/fruited, and the cuttings you take are not programmed to expend energy in flowering.

Thank you for the advice; I have picked out all affected leaf stems, fruit and trimed off any affected and part affected trusses. Just hope that what's left of the fruit will ripen. Pictures below showscurrent 'War Zone' :rotfl:

That's what mine looks like and I've still had loads of toms off them.

I have some unknown something growing!
Didn't spot them (all 2 of them) till last night when the wind blew the big leaves out the way. It's either a summer squash or a cucumber maybe?
I thought it was the BNS vines as they're all over the place but apparently not.
I sowed so many things earlier that ended up as slug food or just gave up and died early July due to constant rain and lack of sun/heat that it could be one of several types.
I'll try to get a pic later and we can play guess the fruit/veg :D

Has anyone tried double cropping Autumn fruiting raspberries, just read a couple of articles and apparently you don't prune just feed the old canes in February, which flower and fruit over next summer then you remove old canes when fruiting finished and get a second crop from new seasons canes which you then leave for following year.
They claim it almost doubles amount of fruit per plant.

Am I right in thinking that my strawberry plants that have all developed red spot and leaf blight need to be binned and can't be cut right back and left to regrow for next year?

Thank you for your help Annie; more than what I got from the previous thread I asked the question to. Hope you have a fine end of season.. and win your competition...:)

    What competition?

And if you're entering, then you'll need some of our seed. We will all be using some from the same pack. At this time I have no idea what variety has been chosen. I'll find out this week sometime.

I have to say I think it's a great choice, as it levels the field very well. None of us will have a clue where we're at until digging-up time.

I guess I need to know how early I can sow them, as the longest possible growing season will obviously be a priority.

Perhaps I misunderstood; thought you had a competition going between you all. I do apologise. :o:D

I harvested another basket full of toms last night from my muskota, they really have performed well and way out performed any of my greenhouse toms. They have cropped really heavily and their taste is good too-not massively sweet but I think that is due to the weather this year. I will certainly be growing them again next year. As for the rest of my veg I haven't really done much with any of them. My runner beans are coming on well and ready for harvesting. French beans are still not doing anything. Carrots are ready but I have got a cold and sore throat so haven't been up to doing much, not even digging them out. That's about it really, not much else going on. My apples are growing well but only 3 pears out of 4 pear trees in my front and back gardens :(

Ah, well, I am trying to grow the heaviest carrot with a few friends, and some on here have joined in, but I'm not sure if annie is one of them.
