Help MBE grow his dinner 2012

Have a lovely time, MBE! :-)
Some of my beans are going to have to at least go in the greenhouse, at least, very soon. I only sowed them 10 days ago and the first couple of runners are about 7" tall already!!! But others are still only just coming through. Very difficult to decide what to do, but the weather does at least seem to be getting a lot milder so I think things are just going to have to go out - the things in the greenhouse out into the garden, and the windowsill things into the greenhouse.
I just wish it would dry up enough to actually plant/sow stuff outdoors. The soil is leaden. :-(I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

Just found next door's cat sat on my strawberry planter!! I hope he's not thinking of using it as a toilet  I'll have to poke some spiky sticks around the edges & hopefully that will deter him. He already uses part of our garden as his own personal pooing space
The nasturtium & marigolds I repotted a couple of days ago are still standing :j I have more sweet peas coming (think there's 8 in total now), 2 peppers have popped up (although one seems to have withered a bit for some reason), I have rosemary coming in the micro planting pouch as well as one in a separate pot, 2 jalapeno chillis & 1 habanero chilli is still trying it's best to pop up.
No outdoor sowing done yet as the weather is so pants!!'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

I wish my two cats would use someone else's garden, they insist on doing their business in their own :rotfl: (I kid, I kid)
Jealous of the jalapenos, wish I'd thought to grow some...Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
Well I've made a decision. Yes indeedy.
All my stuff is going outside a week on Sunday.
Everything is growing too big now and the plants at the back are just not getting enough light so they are going all spindly.
I'm going to spend the week hardening them off then out they are going.
The porch door is often left open during the day so they will be semi-used to the outside temps and it shouldn't be too much of a shock for them.
Hopefully. :undecided
Tomorrow is our only good weather day and we're off out on a woodland walk/picnic so I'm not able to do anything garden wise. It's forecast rain thereafter. Typical.
MBE hope the weekend is going well.
Hope everyone else has a good one too.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Just a quickie, it looks like being a cold night here, I've brought the tender stuff in from the GH.
Might not be where you are though, best check your weather forecast. Also go outside and feel the temp, it's b cold here!Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I have tomatoes :T
Early variety called Latah - thanks to MBE for the heads up last year on the Real Seed Co. Sowed them at beginning of February, now in their final pots and about 40cm tall (bush variety). They've been in an unheated lean to greenhouse since mid March and no losses! My other varieties are doing well in there too. Not enough room for full size pots for them all in the greenhouse so hoping for a change in the weather, although round here it's not forecast to drop below about 8C overnight over the next few days."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
My peppers are going all bendy, sort of just leaning over. I shouldn't have to stake them, should I? (I'm sure I didn't last year!) Is it just because they need potting up into bigger pots (or outside), do you think?I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

Only down to 8c here tonight but as low as 5c by Tuesday. This could be a problem as I have taken up the tomatoes inside space with potted on squashes, peppers, and Q's.
It wouldn't be so bad if I had direct access to my garden but I don't so bringing them in and out each day is a s*d around.
They are currently all huddled together under my potting table against a south facing brick wall with thick fleece over them.
I thought tomorrow I would pot them up in their final pots but plant really deep up to the top leaves, this would make it easier to plastic bottle cloche top them and still keep them under the table with fleece.
If I'm back complaining more than Lemonjelly, then it didn't work, but they're so pot bound now, can't see me getting a good crop this year if I don't pot them on now, and with all those extra feeder roots I hope it will improve things.Angelfeathers wrote: »My peppers are going all bendy, sort of just leaning over. They're only leaning trying to get more light, turn them round and they will straighten up.0 -

, this is for once that I'm happy I am late with sowing everything.
My toms are maybe 8" high, most cucurbits haven't even seen the light yet, although some are at the true leaf stage.
I've been wondering about sowing tomatoes in root trainers, is it worth it, I have a surplus of RT now, so I may be off to do a google to find out.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

I've just sown sown plum tomatoes, as my neighbour gave 3 seeds today. I would think a quick maturing type would be ok sown now, after all, it feels like March:(0
