Can anyone please help I need urgent advise :(

Morning all,

I would be really grateful of some advise here.

So, on Sunday in M&S car park I was driving out and what I thought was me driving over a can was actually a scrape against someone's car.

I parked up the car, as the noise was quite loud and frightend me, got out and had a look at the car, looked at my car and there was no damage. So I got back in and drive away.

Now, yesterday I have received a prosecution letter from the police suggesting that I have committed the following offences:

Driving dangerously
Driving with due care and attention
Exceeding the speed limit
In a dangerous position
Failure to confirm to a traffic sign.

These claims are all false, I am a careful driver and have never been involved in a traffic incident before .

Please help, what do I do next? I have to write a statement, but I am not guilty of these claims?

Really appreciated if you could advise me.

Thanks,
Emma

Can you scan this prosecution letter in and show us...

Is the date of the offence listed. Is it the Sunday you hit the car in the carpark?

The offences seem wrong. You are probably only guilty of leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident (which aren't mentioned in the letter?)

Unless after the police looked at the M&S cctv they tracked the OP's car via other cctv locations and noted she committed those offences as well. ;)

You do not have to make ANY statement, you right to silence is absolute.

If the noise was so loud it frightened you, surely there must have been some damage.

Letter sounds a bit iffy, surely the police would get details from their data base and pay a personal visit.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

There should be date, time & location of these offences in the letter. Is it a s.172 request asking for the identity of the driver?

First step is to ring the police and make sure it's from them.
    Can I help?

How do you know it was a scrape? if there was no damage?

As above what is the date & location of the offence on the NIP?
