OK, so the B*rclays cheque has cleared :j and I have moved the money to where I can easily get it into savings. I have decided I will pay back the silly amount I had to take out to cover my season tickets before I pay any more 'large' sums off the mortgage. That is my comfort blanket, plus we need to get the roof done this year, and I expect that will cost a lot

That doesn't mean I won't be paying off small amounts over the next couple of months though, if I can save extra by being frugal, or if any extra comes my way from Amazon or ebay sales or surveys :D

OH had some metal items stolen from the garden while we were both out at work the other day - our garden is enclosed, and it can't be seen from the road. That means someone must have sneaked round the back (which is a private road) and opened ours, and neighbours presumably, as there is certainly nothing special about ours, gate and looked in to see what they could steal

He is pretty upset, as it was part of a project he had lined up, and is probably not replaceable. It was huge and heavy, which indicates it was not kids etc, but metal thieves who had a hefty van or lorry to take it away, and probably more than one person to lift it. As it is pretty unique, he says he is going to tour the local scrap yards today to see if he can see it there. Two of these have recently been raided and the owners accused of handling stolen goods, as the police found loads of missing BT cable and other stuff belonging to the water company. Metal theft is a big problem round here. It is horrible to think of people sneaking around like that looking for things to steal though  He has told all the neighbours to check if they are missing anything, as they must have also looked elsewhere.

The upshot is, we will have to look at improving security.

Anyway, must get ready for work in a minute, so today I will:

Read free newspaper on the train

Take HM soup and fruit from bowl to work to avoid buying anything

Lots of eggs, so frittata for supper :)

Woodburner alight after work to keep heating down :) and kettle boiling :D

Sort out banking properly this evening, if the B*rclays money has appeared in the other account.

That is probably about all - I am shattered after the week at work :(

:( to theft. Mr GG works on railways and it is a v big problem, and we had no internet for 2 weeks because of it .

See you in London, I'm passing through. I'll be leaving shortly with my new lunchpot thingy complete with spork :)

I wasn't there today GG - but often am, about twice a week on average, so I am sure we will cross paths at some point :D

Sometimes get a free lunch in London :D but if not, I have my trusty 49p lunch box. Not sure what a spork is though? Is there a kitchen type gadget I haven't got? Surely that isn't possible :p

Enjoying reading your diary Dawn :) although  about the theft. We get a lot of rag and bone men around here (horses and carts and everything!) but so far have been lucky and not had anything pinched. I won't let the kids leave their bikes out overnight though - you can never be too careful.

:j:j:j Thanks for input - happy to witter away to myself, but it is a bonus if others chip in from time to time :D

Not all positive at the moment apart from that - I have had a relative die (another funeral to go to - another of my cousins died just before Xmas :().

Woke up on Saturday to no heating or hot water, called out a plumber at no doubt huge expense, and he knew almost as much about our boiler as I do :eek: He did however, after scratching his head quite a lot, emptying some of the kitchen cupboards, pulling out the washing machine and disconnecting the dishwasher (?) suggest that it might be due to frozen pipes - and it was! The pipes from (to?)the boiler disappear into a false ceiling above the kitchen extension, and they were frozen up there

Luckily I managed to thaw them out without them splitting and flooding everywhere  and the boiler obligingly started up again :T

So, today OH got up there and had a look. It seems that, although the false ceiling is completely inside the house, so you would assume it was warm enough, freezing cold air was blasting through a big air brick straight onto the pipes . So, he has now put woolly insulation / lagging stuff on them to keep them warm :)

Still battling on with the parking fine issue - I got a letter from the scummy debt collectors today to say that my appeal has been refused so pay up. I rang the parking company and they haven't even looked at my appeal letter yet  so they are jumping the gun just a bit!

And what is more, it was Monday again :(

Anyway, enough moaning! I read somewhere that February is the most depressing month, and what with the horrible weather I think they are right!

Had a nice day yesterday anyway, visiting DD1, her OH and 2 little grand-daughters :)

Positive posting tomorrow I think (hope!) At least it will no longer be Monday :)
  • oh dear hope your week gets better... xxx
hope you get the parking letter sorted,, glad you got the pipes sorted... xx Glad you had fun with the granddaughters xx
