  • Morning Dawm, must be something in the water as I am up as well. The mind is a complex beast isn't it, sorry to hear you have a work dilemma - make some bread and give it a good bashing :).

Have a good day, we have sun here at the moment :T

Try to find out whether OH's nephew and family are coming for Sunday afternoon tea so that I know what to buy / make. I am hoping not - it would be lovely to see them, but we are also invited out for lunch tomorrow, and I am not sure how all this will fit together :o

I don't know why, but I just thought 'make a nice coffee cake with walnuts on top'. Hope this helps :rotfl:.

Poo to work stress. I have a few work issues as well but am very firm with myself - the b*ggers take up enough of my work day, they are not getting any of my sleep and weekends as well :D. I don't have any tips for actually achieving it though, I think I am just annoyed enough about it to make it work if that makes sense?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Went to the post office re the 2 missing ebay items but all they could do was give me a compensation claim form, and to be honest they want loads of information that looks a real pain to find, and some of which only the seller could provide, so I don't know if I can be bothered to follow it up. I don't have the energy for more hassles right now, and they were only small value items. It is annoying though  I am convinced it is the post and not the ebay sellers, it is just too much of a coincidence to have 2 parcels sent from 2 different areas go missing just a couple of days apart.

Did the shopping and *some* housework. Slept most of the afternoon, and OH cleaned the kitchen while I was in bed :D

Decided to have a look at the new potatoes, so gently scraped some soil away and found some HUGE ones! Too big really, should have started digging them before. Still, it looks as though I won't have to buy any for a while. So, new potatoes and trout for supper. I was going to pick some broad beans as well, but it is now pouring with rain again, so we will have some runners from the freezer (last ones I think) and some baby carrots from Waitrose instead.

Other news, we went to the garden centre and bought a beautiful yellow climbing rose to grow up the rescued wrought iron archway that OH put up the other day. A friend had asked him to take it to the tip

Nice day today - the rain stopped and the sun came out, so that in itself was great :)

OH out this morning so I had the place to myself and used the time to do more housework and gardening bits. Picked more mangetout and broad beans, and planted out some lettuces I got reduced at the garden centre.

Even got the bedding dry outside on the line :D

Then we went out for lunch at a friend's, which was lovely - and meant I didn't have to cook :D

Right, time to get ready for another week at the grindstone :(

Well, a nice day yesterday, but now back to reality for the next 5 :(. Ongoing staffing issues signal it will not be good

It is a good reminder of why I want to pay off the mortgage, to be able to have more nice days :) Not that the mortgage is huge or unaffordable, because it isn't, but the fact that we owe almost 20k  means I must stick at my mostly horrible but fairly well paid job, as opposed to getting something less stressful, with less hours (for less money) to give myself the opportunity to spend more time with my grandchildren, do some voluntary work and have the time and energy to get fitter :)

My car was making a horrible banging noise yesterday, so I need to investigate whether it is just a loose item bashing against the interior or something about to fall off

    So better get on.

Have a good day Dawn, I've never really thought about why we are paying the mortgage off early, I guess it would be to work less but as we would both be only around 40 when we pay it off, I assume we would be still working full time. It would give us lots more money for holidays though :D

Car ok, I think I 'fixed' it by tracking down an errant bottle of water (?) :o I can't hear it banging any more at the moment anyway.

Staffing issue (or one of them) coming to a head as it is annual appraisal time. Liaising with HR on that one. Crucial meeting tomorrow.

More new potatoes scratched for - we haven't actually 'dug' any yet. There must be quite a lot down there :D

OH off yachting tomorrow. Alright for some :rotfl:

As for me, at least Monday is over :T I booked a week's leave for when OH is off on his annual fishing trip to Ireland at the end of July / beginning of August. I can chill out, get some house and garden stuff done, and keep the dog company. Looking forward to it :D

Didn't get much sleep last night due to stressing about work, OH (he is getting very overweight and has a family history of heart disease, and won't cut down on what he eats), the chickens - one isn't looking very well, and we can't seem to find the right substrate for their run, everything really :rotfl::rotfl:Every time I had finished with one 'worry' and turned over hoping to go to sleep, OH's bloomin' phone would beep and off I would go again. It wanted charging I gather  I thought about getting out of bed, searching for it in his clothes and throwing it out of the window - or more sensibly, taking it downstairs and looking for his charger. I thought about it, but didn't actually DO either. Needless to say he slept right through it :rotfl:

So, pretty tired today, but can't help but see the funny side :rotfl:

Looking on the bright side, it is payday later this week :)

And it isn't Monday any more :):)

Finance type jobs to do today - look for National Trust CS number, as their direct debit hasn't migrated to FD.

Right, time to get a move on :(

Today at work was pretty grim as expected , but at least I now know how to deal with the ongoing saga, and HR are being very helpful.

Poorly chicken is a bit brighter :)

OH not back from his yachting trip yet

Left work as early as possible cos I had had enough :(

Walked dog, made pasta and tomato sauce for supper (bought tortelloni, and hm tomato sauce from last year out of the freezer, with a couple of left over bacon rashers cooked till crisp, and crumbled over, chopped parsley, topped with grated cheese and browned under grill), which was very nice. I used Nigel Slater's trick of using salad leaves to mop up the sauce too, and it worked really well. Filling too, and not as fattening as bread :D I wonder if I can persuade OH to give it a try ?:rotfl:

Breakthrough on the ebay front - one seller has offered to refund and claim the loss through Royal Mail's compensation scheme. To be honest that is what I would do as a seller as well, as they require original proof of posting and a detailed description of the package. I have now asked the other seller to do likewise, with the proviso that I will let them know immediately if it should turn up. I am convinced it is the post and not the sellers, but think they should take responsibility as the party that holds the relevant documentation and information.

I am still hoping the items turn up - I would prefer to have them than the refund, but don't want to be totally out of pocket over it.

Work a bit less grim today

    Chicken a bit brighter

Other ebay seller has agreed to refund and deal with the Royal Mail compensation claim themselves :)

Complete mystery what happened to the items though - I have never had post go astray before, and it has made me wary of ebay or in fact ordering anything online :(.

Payday either tomorrow or Friday :j the dates can be slightly random. The moment of truth approaches - will my salary go into the new fd account ok, and will the direct debits go out

Emailed the National Trust because their dd seems to have disappeared, and it is soon due (annual membership).

Leftovers based supper tonight. Macaroni cheese with 3 slightly bendy spring onions cooked in the butter before making the sauce, and some leftover slices of ham, a pot of cream that was slightly over its sell by date, leftover cheese and an elderly tomato grilled on top. It was much nicer than it sounds :rotfl:We had broad beans from the garden with it :D

We have LOTS of mangetout at the moment so trying to think what to do with those (btw thanks for the recipe Tilly :))

Probably use them fresh as a veg accompaniment (to whatever we are having) and freeze the broad beans because they are not much different from fresh to be honest. We also have some tiny carrots and beetroot, which I am using because they are trying to go to seed for some reason - must be the weird weather, they are supposed to be biennials!

OH is doing his daft London job that entails him getting up at 1am tomorrow, so he has gone off to bed. As this daft job involves food, I don't cook on the once a fortnight days he does this. We make do with leftovers or toast!

Right, off to bed for me before long!
