Well, I did a few of the bits I aimed to get done yesterday :o

    Today:

Read through all the First Direct paperwork (there is loads of it )

Load of washing and hope it stays dry so it can go outside on the line (don't like the look of the sky though )

Tidy up - loads of stuff to put away - clothes, paperwork, books, you name it! Also some cleaning  Can't you just tell that housework is not my favourite thing :rotfl:

Make HM French bread pizzas :)

That's about it. No point in being too ambitious - back to work on Thursday :( so making the most of being at home.

All jobs on list done except for the pizzas which I will do in a bit :D

OH helped with the housework :)

1 load of washing dry enough to put in the airing cupboard before it bucketed down with rain - now stopped and I am considering putting out another

Put tomato, aubergine and pepper plants out into the plastic mini-greenhouse thing - I think they will be ok there now, as it is quite sheltered and close to the house. I was tired of them clogging up the lean to. I have put a large peace lily plant out there, in a nice brass planter, which looks more stylish :D if you ignore the wellies, mop, dog bowls etc that are also out there, that is :rotfl:

Looked at all the FD stuff, and will start the switching process after I have been paid for this month (Friday I think) and the bills for the beginning of May have gone out, to hopefully avoid any mishaps.

Had the rest of the olive bread from yesterday, with some French sausage and salad leaves from the garden for lunch.

Moved £200 back into savings to start to replace all I have taken out over the last few weeks

Need to take care here though, as OH's truck needs servicing and MOT on Friday

Discovered how to top up the thingies in the water softener unit :D The installer showed us how when it was put in 4 years ago - then we rented the house out for 3 years and asked the plumber to do it when he did the Landlords cert for the boiler. I had asked OH to do this, but he didn't, needless to say :p

I got a torch and a piece of paper, and crawled into the airing cupboard to look for a manufacturer's name so I could try to find instructions on the internet, but found some rudimentary ones on the unit itself, followed them and did it :T

Don't laugh, that is quite an accomplishment for me - I am not great at technical things :rotfl:

Right, out with the washing basket I think!
  • Hi DW, well done on the crawling about with the torch :T. I would have done the same. LOL

My last day at home before returning to work :(

It is pouring with rain, and looks set to continue, so probably no pegging out of washing today.

Bit of shopping I think - I need a curtain rail for the kitchen, then I can alter the curtains that I bought in a local CS to fit. I am not great at sewing, but can manage a bit of hand hemming. We haven't had anything up at this window since we moved in (it is double glazed and just overlooks the garden, so doesn't matter that much) as I couldn't decide what to do. These curtains are in great condition, like new, and are made up in a pretty retro print, so should brighten up my mainly white kitchen a bit :) and are a cheap solution. The curtains cost £5.99 and I will need to buy a light rail, but that shouldn't cost too much. I should also have anough fabric left over to make something simple like a cushion cover.

Also need a new loo seat for the ensuite - don't you just envy my glamorous lifestyle :rotfl:

Exciting development though - OH has decided to move the stuff he stores under the stairs, and make me a walk in cupboard there, for storing my preserves and items of kitchen equipment that don't easily fit there. I have limited cupboard space, and lots of pots and pans that I am attached to (and use), and nowhere to put spare kitchen rolls etc which currently reside on top of the fridge freezer. It won't quite be my dream of a walk in larder, but will make the kitchen tidier and ease the storage issues to the extent that I don't have to crawl about in the cupboard under the eaves of the house to find my preserving pan when I need it :D

Supper plans - shepherds pie and the first one of the lovely spring cabbages just ready in the veg patch :j

Confession time - I ordered a couple of bits from Lakeland and a small item from ebay. This is as well as the book I have also ordered from Amazon :o Must control random spending on nice things until the mortgage is paid, roof done and savings put back!

Good news (I think) npower have sent me a revised fuel bill based on the readings I submitted, and have reduced my payment from £87 per month to £29. Hmm, that doesn't seem enough, but better in my bank account than theirs I suppose, and if it is found to be not enough to cover usage, I can always just pay the extra (or they can increase it again). By that time it will be about time to think about comparing suppliers again, I should think.

Anyway, back to the grindstone tomorrow and need to get brain in gear and stop thinking about nice domestic things
  • Aww enjoy your last day as best as you can Dawn.

There certainly is alot of rain at the moment, my local river is spilling over its bank but yet we still have a hosepipe ban.

Ohh a walk in cupboard, I better not tell the OH about that or she will be pestering me too!

Ignore the weather and just chill as well as you can.

I must admit I love Lakeland too and I'm going to put an order in soon. Should really curb myself, but I will use the stuff so......

    Take care.

Went to B&Q and got loo seat and curtain rail (the glamour of it all :rotfl:)

Called in at the garden centre on the way back so that I could peruse the nice garden furniture and barbeques. Needless to say I didn't buy any :rotfl:

We popped in to the farm shop section though, and bought 2 fresh chickens, 4 large pork chops and a large gammon hock for just over £14, all locally produced, which I thought was very good value. Freezer now full again, but at least it means we can have something different for meals other than all the bloomin' sausages OH bought back from France :rotfl:

OH now putting up curtain rail, amid much swearing

Back to work today :( and OH is doing his daft London job (daft because it happens only once a fortnight, involves starting work at 1am and not finishing till after 7pm, and pays not much more than minimum wage)

I have a difficult staffing issue to deal with as one of my first tasks, so will be stuck in HR for at least part of the day. Why can't people just do their jobs and be civil to their colleagues  The other people I manage are delightful, but this one is a real pain, and I am forever getting complaints about her work and behaviour :( The worst bit is that she cannot see that there is a problem.

I have to go to the dental hygienist (sp?) before work, so more expense (and I don't like it either)

Just jacket spuds for supper tonight, as OH will have eaten and a day of not eating too much will do me good :o

Anyway, time to put on a positive face and get back to it - I could get used to this being on holiday lark :rotfl:

Work not too bad, though the staffing issue is still looming, and will come to a head soon :( Can't go into detail on here.

OH just home from daft job, with about 3 packets of biscuits. Not sure what he has been up to - he is a bit of a biscuit addict, but I didn't think that far gone :rotfl:

Jacket spuds in the oven, dog walked, washing machine on in the vain hope it might be worth putting some out on the line in the morning, mooched around diaries, better get on.

    It is Friday tomorrow :D
