Morning Dawn, sounds like we have had a similar day. I was up early but no walk so far. Instead we sat down to an English breakfast too, but we left out the toast as a token towards being a little healthier. Feeling rather uncomfortable now

My basil, chillis, toms, chervil are doing really well but my coriander has failed. I use lots of it in cooking and the whole lot have gone to Australia by the looks of things.

Done seedlings. Must take some back upstairs in a minute as not all will fit on the old washstand thingy in the lean to conservatory thingy. I don't think we make the best use of space in there! There are a lot of them though
Also made OH help me fill up the woodstore by the back door - we have a huge stack of logs at the bottom of the garden against the workshop wall - a space which I have designs on for more growing space. Our garden is small, and I don't like wasted space! Not this year though, as the stack is still enormous, and we probably won't get through it next winter either! The woodstore close to the house looks picturesque when filled - I found the design in a magazine, and OH made it for me from some old pallets :T and I painted it with wood preserver stuff. The honeysuckle is starting to grow over it, and it will look really pretty when it flowers
On a purely practical, OH-type level, it is also very practical as you don't need to carry the log basket too far outside on a rainy night to fill it up :rotfl:
Right, off for that walk now I think!
Also just made a small OP of £5 (Halifax reward money for this month). And logged in to my paypal account as I knew that Pinecone had put a survey payment in there - and found a balance of £17.64
There must have been some ebay money I had forgotten about, plus perhaps another pinecone payment. I transferred £15 to my bank account, and when it arrives, it can also be overpaid
OH laughs at me for getting so excited about such small overpayments

Felt a bit yucky last night, and went to bed early with a headache. Still feel a bit odd this morning. I hope I am not getting something just in time for our holiday
Today:
I have a bit of shopping to do, though nothing much. I might walk into town and take some decluttered items to the CS - a CD rack, a blind that I was given that doesn't fit anywhere, and a waste bin. That would tidy up a bit, as they are all just hanging around in different rooms collecting dust - apart from the plastic bin which is outside collecting miniscule amounts of rain water but looks equally untidy.
OH has promised to build a shelf thing in the lean to, to make more room for plants, and will use up a left over length of worktop from our kitchen. At the moment there is just an old marble topped wash stand out there, a couple of old chairs and the dog's bed - plus assorted shoes, boots etc - you get the picture. It would be good to get this area tidier.
Shepherds pie for supper tonight - DD2 and her OH appeared yesterday evening, and helped us finish off the quiche, along with jacket potatoes, veg, and most of the ice-cream

Feeling better now - spent most of yesterday in bed in the end
Not sure what was wrong. A headachey, temperature thing. Anyway, it seems to have gone now - I must have fought it off whatever it was.
Had leftover shepherds pie from yesterday for tonight's meal, but with freshly cooked vegetables with it. Also leftover rice pudding
Had a bit of a chicken drama - one of my 2 girls died
and because one on its own gets distressed, OH acquired 2 more this afternoon. There is a bit of a standoff situation going on, but hopefully they will settle down soon. The 2 new girls laid eggs not an hour after we put them in the henhouse
My old hens were just that - old ladies. The remaining one graces us with an egg every few days during the spring and summer months, but not at all in the winter. The one that died had been laying till quite recently.
One of the new ones is quite bossy, and was telling the old one off. The old one is about twice her size though! Come to think about it, the one who died used to boss her about as well. She was smaller but seemed much more intelligent. The other new one seems more timid. Anyway, I hope they all become good friends very soon! I don't name my chickens - I had 'white chicken' and 'brown chicken' but now all 3 are brown :rotfl: The two new ones are smaller and lighter brown than the old one though.
Eggs for breakfast I think!0 -
The chickens seem to have settled down, and all quiet
Hope they lay some eggs later
Plans for today:
Bit of shopping as I haven't done any this weekend
Fishcakes for evening meal, using some tuna steaks I got out of the freezer the other week and ended up not using, so cooked it and refroze. I like them with chopped capers and lots of parsley
Don't usually use such posh fish though!
Water seedlings (must do this or they will droop)
Walk dog later
I have stripped the bed off but it is raining a bit so I will probably put off washing them till tonight, in the hope they can go out on the line tomorrow. I also want to strip off the guest bed as a friend is coming to stay on Thursday and I want to make it nice and fresh for her. Nobody has slept in it since it was last changed of course, but it could do with freshening up and airing.
Come to think of it the guest room is a bit upside down at the moment as we had an electrician come to look at the lights and extractor in the ensuite, which OH is currently renovating. The bed is currently pushed to the middle of the room with the electrician's ladder propped up to the loft hatch and tools everywhere  Hope the electrician comes back and finishes off before Thursday
Otherwise friend will have to sleep in the single bed in the study.
The ensuite shower won't be usable yet, as OH has taken such a long time to get around to doing it  He has only had since last September when he gave up his job :mad: Still, he has been busy concentrating on his crafts I suppose, but it is hardly a big job, as the shower cubicle itself already had lovely limestone tiling (not sure why, given the purple carpet and tatty plastic shower screen that also featured :rotfl:), and we got the floor tiled last spring before we moved in. The tray needs resealing and some tidying up doing where we took down the horrible old shower screen thing. We are replacing the screen with a curtain, as there is so little room in there. I can't imagine OH and the electrician will have finished (and the sealant set) by Thursday, so friend will have to use the shower in the main bathroom. The loo and washbasin are fine though. Fingers crossed that the electrician appears to finish off tomorrow or Wednesday!
On another note, I have just noticed a huge pile of blackening bananas, glancing across at the fruit bowl . OH must have bought an enormous quantity when he went to the greengrocers last week  Enough for a whole troop of monkeys - but 2 little GDs were more interested in chocolate eggs when they visited on Thursday :rotfl:I think I had better make banana cakes as well!0 -
Hi Dawn, just laughing at your post as we have bananas ready for cake baking this afternoon as well. I don't like throwing anything away really and am, therefore, sitting on a mountain of breadcrumbs
. All in the freezer but definitely have to be used up. May have to change the menu plan to accommodate a la breadcrumb recipes.......

Banana cakes done. Also a rhubarb crumble using stuff from the cupboards and freezer

Still to do:
Make up bed and put sheets in to wash - hoping for good drying weather tomorrow!
Ironing  Not much, but it must be done so that I have something to wear to work tomorrow. I don't do it very often
My ironing basket is a vintage shopping basket that doesn't hold very much :rotfl:And it doesn't get emptied very often either. Come to think of it I read on one of the other boards once that ironing is illegal :rotfl:
Get suitcase down from loft and start to put things into it and make a list. We are going to France on Sunday :eek:0 -

I still haven't done the ironing

But I finished work today until 26 April :j:j:j:beer::beer::beer::T:T:T
Didn't manage to escape till about 7.30pm, but eventually got out of the door
Off to France on Sunday to see pal
Another pal coming to stay for a couple of days tomorrow
OH finds her rather hard work so will be playing a lot of golf over the next two days :rotfl:
Been reading through the diaries - so impressed by the HUGE overpayments people are making - I might manage £20 this month
But will hope to do better next!
MOT coming up for OH's truck though, and it needs a service
Seriously considering a First Direct 8% regular saver, so have opened a FD current account. I might switch my main account from S*tander - still thinking about it. I hear good things about FD's customer service though
Must ring C&G tomorrow to get a balance update :j
Also have a cheque to pay in, from some junk we sold at an auction. We have nearly got to the bottom of the decluttering pile :T
Cuppa and then bed I think - OH went ages ago as he is going to the occasional casual (stupid) job that involves him getting up at 1am and working about 15 hours for not much more than minimum wage:eek: I keep suggesting he gives that one up - we aren't that desperate!0 -
Hi, since moving from the Spanish bank to FD I could not be happier. Their 8% regular saver is also a big plus. I have found the service to be more consistent and training on products/services to be exemplary.
Enjoy your hols and hope the rain stays off for golf.
