Maybe she should concentrate on meeting new people, improving her social life (therefore improving her self esteem at the same time) and go from there.. She needs to be happy in herself first and then I am sure she will have men falling at her feet (and if it works, be sure to let me know ;) !).

Get her to write a list of things she wants to do, activities, hobbies etc - she may well meet the man of her dreams at one of these places.

Also, speed dating is good fun - a good night out at least if nothing else, but probably difficult if most of her friends are married or with partners.

I would second the posts that advise your mate to get out and meet real people, preferably away from "cattle markets".

But I confess that I got my hubby (& some um experiences before meeting him :rotfl: ) on the web - it was "midsummerseve" site - free 4 years ago, might still be?

If this friend of yours is as attractive as you say and has still had no replies then I would suggest that there may well be something wrong with her user profile on the site.

Maybe she could show you what she's written about herself and you may see that it's not actually that good and may need redoing. Here's some stuff to avoid using:

    40-ish...Really means...48

    Athletic...Really means...Flat-chested.

    Average looking...Really means...Ugly.

    Beautiful...Really means...Pathological liar.

    Educated...Really means...College dropout.

    Emotionally Secure...Really means...Medicated.

    Feminist...Really means...Fat; ball buster.

    Free spirit...Really means...Drug user.

Friendship first...Really means...Trying to live down reputation as sl*t.

    Fun...Really means...Annoying.

    Good Listener...Really means...Borderline Autistic.

New-Age...Really means...All body hair, all the time.

Old-fashioned...Really means...Lights out, missionary position only.

    Open-minded...Really means...Desperate.

    Outgoing...Really means...Loud.

    Poet...Really means...Depressive Schizophrenic.

    Professional...Really means...Real Witch.

    Redhead...Really means...Shops the Clairol section.

    Reubenesque...Really means...Grossly Fat.

One of the problems I think is that as we get older we get more narrow minded and fussy ( as I think has happened to your friend). This unfortunately is a very negative human trait and really drives wedges between a person and the rest of the world. I think your friend should spend a long time with people and she will start to see through the annoyances and appreciate diversity. I am very sure that she is a great person, but it is so easy to make quick judgements as you get older.

If she joins a class, or went on a singles holiday for example, she would find herself warming to the stragest of companions and that makes us feel young again, I think.

    just my thoughts . richard

  • The problem with the dating site you mention is that there are loads of people with profiles who don't subscribe, so even in your friend makes first contact they may not see the message.

That site has a bad rep for fake profiles. girlsdateforfree.com is probably the best I've seen. makefriendsonline.com is a good site and they have a meets section but it does have a charge.
