BT caller display charges on BT privacy

BT have some gall to charge for Caller Display, it generates more income in returned calls than it costs I'm sure. Standard 1471 only gives you the last number who rang you, whereas with a good Caller ID phone you get 10 or 20 call records.
Eircom in the Republic of Ireland are not renowned for generosity of any kind, yet even they give Caller ID free.
I'm so glad I binned BT for calls years ago :TNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0 -
Bigcammy,
Not only do they have the gall to charge for caller display its the way they describe it! ONE OFF CHARGE. I binned them for calls years ago too.sally0 -
It's even better when you worked for them for ten years, then got out through the escape tunnel and spent the next 15 years slagging them off at every opportunityNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Unlike suppliers like Talk Talk etc they dont charge for it, as long as you make a couple of calls a month, which seems quite reasonable to me.0 -
Got an e-mail from BT the other day saying that the charge would be refunded. Today received a letter stating that my account had been credited with £3.58. It is showing up as a partial payment of £4.20 (3.58 + vat)on my on-line account. Where they got that figure from I cannot imagine.
Another complaint e-mail sent off.
edit
I have worked out the figure. It seems to be refund of caller display less my paperless billing credit of 88p. :rolleyes:0 -
Same here. Some minutes to get though the automated menus and speak with an account operator who apologised and after some fussing about said that the correct sum would be deducted in the direct debit.
Perhaps if it happens next time round we should be applying an "admin charge"?Heinz wrote:The minimum price of a daytime UK 01/02 call on BT is 6p now (3p 'call set-up fee' + 3p for the first minute).0 -
Is it legal they can start charging for this without any warning?
I don't get a paper bill, just billed quarterly via direct debit after an email, but no mention of this change to the rules before the charge appeared!0 -
i nver got any notice abt this bullcrap0

I didn't get any notificiation either and only noticed it when I checked this month's on-line bill. I e-mailed them and got the following response:-
"I am sorry to hear about the charge for Free Caller Display though your calls
are routed from other service provider.
Having checked your BT account, I like to inform you about the one-off charge on your recent bill ID-Q038 dated 25/02/2007 is for the Free Caller Display which was provided to you with the package BT Privacy, which is now chargeable from 9th February 2007 and we have sent a notification about this through mail to your billing address.
However, to avoid this one-off charge on your future bills, you need to make at least two calls per month on monthly billing or six calls per quarter on quarterly billing through BT?s network to avoid these charges, to make calls
through BT network you need to prefix 1280 before dialling a telephone number."
I haven't received a letter through the post from BT - surprise - surprise! So I have just e-mailed them back saying it is unreasonable to expect me to make the required number of calls to get FREE caller display if I was not aware of the change...0 -
I received my bill yesterday and noticed the £4.46 one off charge. When I rang to query it I was told that I had been notified by post. I asked for the date on which the letter had been sent, and after a couple of minutes on hold was told that a letter hadn't been sent after all. He then agreed to refund the charge on this occasion.
It will be interesting to see whether the refund arrives. Don't let BT get away with this!0
