I had a go chasing him around the other day too! I think I spend more time hitting the spam button than posting these days.

    Well done everyone!

(Oh goodness... I went to click Thanks on DVardysShadow's post & clicked Spam instead... this is the default state I've got into these days!!! - still I was able to reverse it and click the right button!!!)

On my posts, the spam button is an online order. I'm sending you a case now.

You mean it was spam ?
I've spent days waiting for the posts waiting for Liverpool to be on.
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

My goodness, did it take until after 5 pm to get rid of him? I was following him around earlier this afternoon, hitting "spam" and reporting him a few times too - I think this was around 1:30.

I think some forums have a limit to how many new threads you can start in a short period of time, wouldn't this be something that could be set up automatically? That would at least give genuine posters the time to mark the threads as spam. Once enough people do that the threads are temporarily removed and the originator could be blocked temporarily too, until admins have a chance to check it out?

I can't think of any reason why it should be possible to post 10s of new threads within a couple of minutes like this genius was doing earlier?

Just wait until about 530am tomorrow. That's the usual time for the posts (or at least it has been been the last couple of weeks). There were 100 posts in just under an hour last week!

I saw a post from someone the other day complaining about getting them on his RSS feed... to a mobile phone.

I can only imagine how annoying that must be!!!

These spammers are notoriously difficult to stop, most of what they do is automated.
I am Admin on a small forum and we get several spam attempts every day, on a site this size I dread to think how many times this happens! Banning email addresses doesn't work as they come back with a new one, blocking IP addresses can cause problems for genuine members (unless they come from Russia or China :rotfl:) as these can be shared by IP pools.
On our small forum new members need admin approval, you simply couldn't do that here due to the numbers of people joining on a daily basis, the same would apply if new members needed admin approval for thier first few posts.
I take my hat off to the Admin on this site, keeping spammers out is a nightmare.

A couple of forums I use have a random anti-spam phrase you have to enter when you post, to verify its not an auto bot creating the post. I think the amount and frequency of the posting earlier suggests it must be automated. Perhaps the anti-spam filter might help?
  • I think it would be fair game to ban any IPs from overseas, we don't necessarily need them on here. Viewing yes, posting no.

I'm so glad I don't have to deal with it. They've really been earning their salaries the last few days.
