The government is banging on about reducing our carbon footprint but, why are we importing produce which can easily be grown here? I agree with a man on the program this morning who said that milk and bread used to be almost similar in price, now look at the difference, nearly a pound for a decent loaf and 29p a pint for milk, out of that the farmer gets only 6p.
But like everything else, we want it cheaper, even if it is to the detriment to the hardworking farmers of Britain and even if it means putting British workers out of a job and then moan when the Europeans come over and do the work for half the price,it cuts both ways too.And yes the lady in the avatar is me

Have got the programme recorded to watch later. If you're interested in milk supplies, this might be a useful starting point

The third link looks like an affliate link.kittie wrote:
These are my main internet links for food and groceries. I use them because they are tried and tested and they sell organic, apart from martins seafresh. I have used them for years and have never been let down

I get milk from riverford and top up with moo organic but I`ll try extra milk from riverford this week and see if it lasts. I`ll also be looking into the cheese from riverford or craigfarm
Seems to work without the affliate link

Everything I buy from the supermarkets that is frozen I either rip out the outer packaging and repackage before I stash it in the fridge, or I give it a good wash under the tap before I stick it in my freezer. I consider this essential as supermarket freezers are never washed as best I can see, and sometimes even quite filthy. Also, being a clean freek, I shudder to think of the amount of germs the stuff I buy has picked up from people packing the item in the factory right through down to the supermaket shelf stackers.0

another good programme today....wednesday.....
all about their marketing ploy for you to buy more.....they even said when they put the price comparison on the slef label on veg etc....... that i is known that you can get it cheaper in local markets.... etc....
also tescos are making a profit of over 6 million pounds per day...disgusting..... considering what they were doing with the farmers... and producers.. of fresh produce.... sqeezing every bit of prfoit out of them....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Just watched this mornings prog. Thanks for the 'heads-up' - wish I had seen the others.
They obviously think most people won't change so are quite happy to let us in on the tricks!
I have to shop with a list or else I forget the basics, but then I'm a single shopper - not their target market.
Notice that a lot of you OSers shop at Mr T. Is that just because they are the nearest or are they good value compared to the others?0 -

No, probably just for the clubcard points
edit and the R & R's
Not been able to catch the other programmes of this during the week but saw this mornings one.
Did anyone else notice that all the special offers shelf edge labels (SELs) had dates in 2004 on them? Makes me think it might have taken a while for Mr T to ok this programme for airing??0 -
I wish I had seen the other programmes that have been shown too. They aren't really covering anything new though I don't think but maybe that is because I have worked in a shop for too long.
I think that a lot of people shop at Tesco as it is convenient. They can get free parking and can get most of the items they require under one roof. Also there are Tescos everywhere, I don't have a car but if I did then from my house I would have a choice of at last 8 different Tescos (some of them are Metro and Express stores) that I could go to. Almost everywhere you go these days there is a Tesco nearby.
People like the offers instore and they buy the Value range and like the prices they get off those items.
Also an awful lot of people have Clubcards and they get their money off vouchers and use the Clubcard deals.
I don't think the majority of people will change, they may want to but its not always easy.
Not everyone has access to a decent greengrocer, butcher, fishmonger, bakery anymore. People that do have the access don't have (can't or won't make) the time to go.0 -

Several years ago I had a butcher and fishmonger within walking distance. Both have closed and the only food shops I can walk to are two branches of Somerfield. Anywhere else means a car drive.0 -
I take your point Ti1980 - I live in Tesco Town (Bicester) and there is nothing but nothing but Tesco's! (well there didn't used to be... We have 2 alternatives if we go to the town centre now - a M&S food store and I think Sainsbury - if you know where to lok there is a tiny co-op too...)
I used to think I didn't have the time to deal with other suppliers - trying to get to the butchers before they close, finding fruit and veg suppliers etc and general groceries. Don't get me wrong I still visit Tesco - but my shopping list when I go is remarkably short...
A lot of people have box schemes that will deliver all the fruit and veg they could wish for. Some like mine does pretty much everything you could want for! Anything from topping up the washing up liquid (refillingstation - how groovy!), flour, chocolate, sugar and all the way to organic meat, eggs, fish and milk - they even do toilet roll and washing powder! (all the eco stuff).
Not all is cheaper than I can get everywhere else but I have to admit it's a good alternative to Tesco for those who can't get to any other suplier and their quality is great!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
