  • Closed is better at these logs than I am. But uninstall: google updater,

Also Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.60 - FileHippo.com and install malwarebytes, update definitions and run a quick scan. Remove everything it finds and post log here. Then update definitions again and run a full scan. Remove everything it finds and post log here.

Already have that installed and updated, but am unable to finish a scan as the notebook freezes and won't complete it:(
Am on the way home now, but will retry the scan then:)
  • Been home an hour and can't even get Malwarebytes to open let alone run a scan:(

I have also been getting a pop up message saying

"Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service"

From googling this it seems this is the problem on this netbook as the symptoms described by other users match whats happening to this notebook:(

Mbam is installed as I've tried a few times to run a scan already,at the moment though I just can't get Mbam to boot up to even start the scan:(

Safe mode is as unusable as normal mode:(

hi, what model inspiron is it? what operating system? how much RAM is installed? is OS fully up-to-date?

these comments wont help overcome this problem but, from HJT log:
    disable the following auto-startups:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] "c:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\Windows\system32\igfxtray.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\Windows\system32\hkcmd.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BTMTrayAgent] rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Motorola\Bluetooth\btmshell.dll",TrayApp
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"

and maybe these unless they're highly useful to the owner:

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [Launcher] C:\Program Files\Dell DataSafe Local Backup\Components\Scheduler\Launcher.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [DSUpdateLauncher] "C:\Program Files\Dell DataSafe Local Backup\Components\DSUpdate\hstart.exe" /NOCONSOLE /D="C:\Program Files\Dell DataSafe Local Backup\Components\DSUpdate" /RUNAS "C:\Program Files\Dell DataSafe Local Backup\Components\DSUpdate\DSUpd.exe"

pls answer the first questions though to help us out :)
    Friendly greeting!
  • hi, what model inspiron is it? what operating system? how much RAM is installed? is OS fully up-to-date?

    Dell Inspiron 1018
    Win7 Starter
    1GB Ram
OS up to date as far as I can tell, there are no alerts to any and so far have been unable to manually tell as its running on IE9 and is very very slow and mainly freezes before getting anywhere:(
  • Have disabled/deleted all that were suggested with ref to the HTL and the netbook is still running like a piece of crap:(

Have even tried all suggestions found on the net regarding
"Windows could not connect to the System Event Notification Service service"
I def think this is the problem here!

But the message still shows upon boot up, which takes roughly 8 minutes!

Still unable to run a MBam scan, as the notebook freezes. The Notebook freezes very fast usually within about 2 mins of completing boot up, even if I don't try to do anything with it:(

Can anyone offer any further help please?
  • Can't you do a system restore?
  • Did you say you can't get into safe mode or that malwarebytes won't run in safe mode?
