I was in there yesterday, they had notices up about it, and overheard customers being served infront of me.
Assistant advising they could not do exchanges or refunds (except if an item was faulty) and they could not accept vouchers or credit notes for part payment, they were telling people to be absolutely sure when making purchases as they could not be returned if people changed their mind, which I thought was fair of them.
I felt so sorry for the assistants, with the prospects of loosing their jobs, and getting quite a bit of abuse from customers.
There is a glimmer of hope, as the administrators are trying to find a buyer, if someone is willing to take the company on, some shops may remain open. Orders that have been paid for are still being delivered, but after that there will not be any new stock until a decision has been made about the business.:(0 -
According to news the shops arent loosing money as a whole the problem arose because
"Peacocks has been burdened with a loan of £149m that was taken out at a massive 17.18% interest rate when chief executive Richard Kirk led a management buyout in 2005." source
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-16639166
"Patrick Woodall, chief executive of the retail consultancy Pragma, told BBC Wales he was "reasonably confident" a buyer for the company would be found.
"Peacocks is fundamentally an attractive and profitable business and, provided the financing structure is right, I firmly believe it's got a future on the high street," he said.
"I think there will be a lot of interest to the administrators for this business.""0 -
I've just been in to Peacocks. Ours only opened last November and it is the busiest I have seen it. Such a shame for the staff who will no doubt lose their jobs.
There is no refund, exchange or return policy at the moment. I wanted to buy shoes for my wee boy but was unsure what size to get so was advised to take him in with me because they will not refund or exchange.0 -
I was chatting to a friend who's son is a store manager and he hasn't been paid this month and isn't expecting to get paid....and he still goes in to work!0

If you have gift vouchers you can make a claim for (some of) your money.

Typical really - I bought an item the day before this all happened and I wanted to return it - thankfully it was only for £2 :mad:0 -
Just to say ... i went into peacocks today to exchange a top for some trousers, and they are no longer allowing exchanges either.
I feel so sorry for the staff who have to be front of shop, the sales assistant was saying she had some awful customers in yesterday, one who threatened to hit her .. the administraters were at the store so she told him to deal with the customer.
Its such a shame.Hoping to be a thinner me in 2010!0 -
I went in to the New Oscott store yesterday to pick up some tee shirts for my son. I werent aware when i went into store about the administration but when getting to the till each point had a print out stating all terms and conditions of sale from the administrators.
I was advised by the SA that i couldnt exchange/refund items but was happy with that anyway as the tops were only really for dossing around in however the lady at the till beside me was becoming more and more irate about being out of pocket with items she had purchased a few days prior that she couldnt exchange now. I felt more sorry for the poor SA who was close to tears trying to explain how to apply to the creditors for a refund and this lady getting more and more hett up more concerned about a couple of quid rather than these poor ladies losing their jobs.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j
